Huge Division Battle as Blues Host Hawks

Corey Crawford Chicago Blackhawks Vladimir Tarasenko St. Louis Blues MLB

With the exception of the Metropolitan, the races for division supremacy in the NHL are becoming more intriguing with each passing day. The battle for the Central Division is front and center as four teams are now in the hunt for the crown. Two of those clubs are set to tangle as the Chicago Blackhawks visit the St. Louis Blues Wednesday night.

Shark Bites
  • The Blackhawks are 3-7 SU in their last 10 road games against the Blues.
  • The total has gone OVER the Blackhawks’ last seven games on the road.
  • The Blues are 6-1 SU in their last seven games after a win in their previous effort.

Online shop Bovada is currently offering the Blues at -120 on home ice in moneyline markets while the Blackhawks are offered at -110. As far as the total is concerned, OVER 5 goals is presently -120 while UNDER 5 is at -110.

The Dallas Stars lead the Central with 88 points with the Hawks at 87 and the Blues at 85. The Nashville Predators have been sizzling since mid February and have joined the party with 80 points.

The Blues own the league’s second-longest current winning streak at three games (New York Islanders have a four-game streak) but will have to snap a two-game drought versus the Blackhawks. The Blues scored a 6-5 win in the clubs’ first meeting but the Hawks triumphed 4-2 and 2-0 in the next two contests.

The Blackhawks come in with three wins in their last four and skated to a 4-1 win over the Detroit Red Wings in their last game Sunday. Starting tonight, five of their next seven games are against division foes so they have a great opportunity to distance themselves from the rest of the pack.

Isles Go for Fourth-Straight Win Tuesday

Pittsburgh Penguins New York Islanders NHL

With both of the Tampa Bay Lightning’s and Anaheim Ducks’ winning streaks ending Monday night, two teams currently have the distinction of owning the NHL’s longest winning streak at three games. The New York Islanders are one of those teams (St. Louis Blues are the other) and look to extend that to four games when they host the Pittsburgh Penguins Tuesday night.

Shark Bites
  • The Islanders are 5-1 SU in their last six games as favorites.
  • The Penguins are 1-6 SU in their last seven games as road underdogs.
  • The total has gone OVER in seven of the Penguins’ last 10 games.

Online shop Bovada is currently offering the Islanders at -130 in moneyline markets while the Penguins are at EVEN odds. The total is tabbed at 5.5 with OVER priced at +110 and UNDER 5.5 at -140.

The Islanders’ modest winning streak came in the final three games of a seven-game road trip. The road trip was one that the Isles dominated, however, as they won six of those seven contests and head into Tuesday’s meeting with the Penguins three points ahead of the Metropolitan Division rivals with two games in hand.

The Penguins are coming off a 6-1 thrashing of the New Jersey Devils Sunday, but winning back-to-back games has not been a strong point for the team recently. They have gone just 1-6 SU in their last seven games following a win in their previous effort.

Pittsburgh won the only other meeting with the Isles this season by a score of 5-2 back on January 2. That has gone against recent trends, however, as the Islanders won four of the final five meetings with the Pens last season.

Even though they were wildly successful on their road trip, the Isles will no doubt be happy to return home. During the stretch run, they’ll be keen on keep the Pens at arm’s length behind them and that goal continues in Brooklyn tonight.

Canadiens Have Been a Good Bet at Home

Montreal Canadiens NHL

Faithful Montreal Canadiens fans and bettors have been left frustrated during the 2015-16 season. While they are currently losers of four-straight games entering Tuesday’s schedule, they have been a decent wager in home games of late. They return to the Bell Centre after a horrendous road trip and host the Dallas Stars Tuesday night.

Shark Bites
  • The total has gone OVER in 12 of the Stars’ last 17 games.
  • The Stars are 7-3 SU in their last 10 games on the road.
  • The Stars are 8-3 SU in their last 11 games versus teams with a losing record.

The Habs are currently sitting at EVEN odds in moneyline markets at online shop Bovada while the Stars are -130. The total is tabbed at 5.5 with OVER and UNDER both priced at -115.

Yes, the Canadiens will be happy to see the familiar confines in Montreal after going 0-4 SU in their recent road trip. That trip saw losses to all three California teams and concluded with a 4-2 defeat at the Winnipeg Jets Saturday. The Habs have gone 5-1 SU in their last six games on home ice with that one loss coming in a 2-1 shootout defeat at the hands of the Nashville Predators back on February 22.

The Stars have rebounded nicely after losing four-straight and seven of eight to post back-to-back wins entering Tuesday’s meeting. They recorded a 2-1 victory versus the Ottawa Senators Sunday and have gone 8-5-1 versus the Atlantic Division season to date. Despite going 3-5-2 in their last 10 games, the Stars are still right in the thick of it in the highly-competitive Central Division. Dallas certainly has more to play for and will have to keep up with the Chicago Blackhawks and red-hot St. Louis Blues.
