Price Has Owned Bruins in His Career

Montreal Canadiens Carey Price

One of the NHL’s best rivalries takes centre stage Saturday as the Boston Bruins welcome the Montreal Canadiens to town in the second game of their respective seasons. Boston opened with an ugly 6-2 loss to the Winnipeg Jets, while the Montreal Canadiens topped Toronto in its season debut.

Shark Bites
  • Montreal has won its last 5 games against the Bruins.
  • The Under is 4-2 in the last 6 meetings between the teams.
  • Gallagher, Plekanec and Pacioretty each had 3 goals against Boston last year.

The goaltending matchup for this one is looking pretty lopsided on paper. Habs netminder Carey Price has 21 wins against Boston (21-8-3) in his career - the most against any opponent. Meanwhile, Bruins goaltender Tuukka Rask is just 3-13-3 lifetime against the blue, blanc et rouge. Ask gave up nine goals in three losses to the Canadiens in the 2014/15 campaign.

The playing status of hulking defensemen Zdeno Chara is still up in the air as a result of an upper body injury, meaning newly acquired d-man Colin Miller could make his NHL debut in the captain’s place.

NHL Opening Night Odds - CHI vs NYR

The puck drops tonight on a new NHL season and the defending Stanley Cup champion Chicago Blackhawks will take center stage when they welcome the New York Rangers to the United Center. The Hawks have a recent history of starting seasons strong at home, going 4-0 in their last four home openers. Opening night, however, hasn’t been kind to defending Cup champs, as they’re 2-7 in season openers since the 2004 lockout.

The Rangers enter the season hoping to build upon last season’s trip to the Eastern Conference Finals where they lost to the Lighting in seven games. The Rangers have been above average in their last 10 season openers, going 6-4.

Since 1989, the Blackhawks have a slight edge in the 39 games played between the two teams, going 18-17-4.

Maple Leafs vs Canadiens: NHL Odds

One of sport’s greatest rivalries will kick off the NHL season when the Toronto Maple Leafs host the Montreal Canadiens at the Air Canada Center. The Leafs kick off a new era with new coach Mike Babcock at the helm and hope to rebound from yet another disappointing season that saw them finish second to last in the conference.

The Canadiens, meanwhile, finished second in the conference and are eyeing a Stanley Cup run. Oddsmakers give Montreal the 11th best odds in the NHL at capturing the Cup, while the Leafs rank a dreadful 28th. View those odds here.

Hockey fans might be surprised to hear that the Leafs have a slight edge in the series against Montreal over the past 25 years, going 55-52-5. Toronto has also started their past five seasons strong, going 4-1 in season openers, with the Canadiens going just 1-4.

Jennings Trophy with Chicago’s Corey Crawford as the goalies on the teams that allowed the fewest amount of goals in the regular season.

Best NHL Betting Strategies

Undefined

Some sports handicappers believe that hockey is the easiest sport to bet on for those who follow the NHL closely and track player injuries carefully along with goaltender play.

As one of the most physical and grueling games, depth in hockey is extremely important, especially when teams have to deal with a key injury. Handicapping the NHL schedule is also very critical because teams often play tough stretches both at home and on the road, squeezing a lot of games into short periods of time.
