Goals Galore When Jets, Oilers Play

Two teams that have been struggling defensively meet when the Edmonton Oilers host the Winnipeg Jets Saturday. The Jets have surrendered 3.5 goals per game in their past six while the Oilers have given up three goals per game in that same span. These defensive deficiencies have lead to the OVER going 5-1 in the Jets and Oilers past six outings respectively.

The Jets activated goaltender Ondrej Pavelec from injured reserved Friday and assigned rookie Connor Hellebuyck to the AHL. Pavelec has not played since November 21 and coach Paul Maurice expects the Czech goalie to get the start in one of the next couple games.

There is no way to talk about the Oilers without talking about Connor McDavid. The 19-year old has been amazing since coming off the IR as he has 12 points in six games since returning for Edmonton. McDavid is coming off the best game of his young career in which he scored two goals and added three assists against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

OVER Trending Between Stars, Caps

The top two scoring teams in the NHL are set to clash when the Washington Capitals visit the Dallas Stars Saturday. The Stars have scored a league leading 178 goals this season and has cashed OVER tickets in each of their past five outings. The Caps are just behind the Stars in goals (175) and have only gone under twice in their past 18 games.

Winners of five of their past six games, the Stars enter Saturday nights game just one point behind the Chicago Blackhawks for the Central Division lead. After a slump that saw him tally just two points in seven games, Tyler Seguin has three goals and four assists in the past five.

The Capitals enter this game on a five-game winning streak, but only one of those games saw Washington win by more than one goal. Leading scorer Evgeny Kuznetsov has passed concussion protocol and will be on the ice for the Caps Saturday.

Red Wings are a Poor Bet With No Rest

Dylan Larkin Detroit Red Wings

The Detroit Red Wings are coming off a solid homestand but will immediately have to hit the road when they travel to Brooklyn to tangle with the New York Islanders in Monday night’s slate of NHL action. The Red Wings, who are coming off a 4-0-1 showing at Joe Louis Arena, are far from a reliable play in the second half of back-to-back games, however. Detroit is a measly 0-5 in their last five when playing without a day of rest.

Shark Bites
  • The Islanders are 1-4 in their last 5 vs. the Eastern Conference.
  • The Islanders are 5-2 in their last 7 home games.
  • The Red Wings are 7-3 in their last 10 road games.

When the Wings and Isles collide in the Big Apple, high-scoring affairs are the norm. The OVER has paid out in six of the last seven meetings between the clubs. At the time of writing, the line and total for the game were off the board.

One player to watch out for in tonight’s contest is Islanders’ captain John Tavares. Tavares has collected six goals and eight assists over his last nine games.

The Wings are looking to complete a sweep of the season series in the wake of a 5-1 home victory over New York on February 6.
