Coyotes Feasting on Pacific Division Foes

Arizona Coyotes NHL

The Arizona Coyotes have been flirting with a playoff spot in the Western Confernece this season, but if they could play the Pacific Division every night, they’d be one of the top teams in the league. The Yotes get another shot versus a division rival when they visit the Anaheim Ducks Friday night.

Shark Bites
  • The total has gone OVER in three of the Ducks’ last four games.
  • The Coyotes are 1-5 SU in their last six games after a loss in their previous game.
  • The Ducks are 10-2 SU in their last 12 games versus teams from the Western Conference.

At online sportsbook BetOnline, the Coyotoes are big dogs at +169 while the Ducks are presently -188 in moneyline markets. OVER 5.5 goals is tabbed at +118 with UNDER -130.

Arizona has put together a stellar 11-3-2 record in 16 games versus teams from the Pacific - easily the best mark of the seven team division. The Ducks will be a stiff test for the Yotes, however, as they’ve won five straight games after Thursday’s 4-2 win at the Los Angeles Kings.

The Coyotes have hit the skids a little bit having lost three straight games, including both of their post-All-Star break games. Goaltender Louis Domingue, steady through the majority of his starts, has been shelled in his last two starts, allowing 10 goals on 65 shots in both games since the break.

The Ducks have a lot of work to do to challenge the Kings for the division crown, but a win over a club that has beaten them in all three meetings so far this season would be a great place to start.

Penguins March Into Tampa Without Malkin

Sidney Crosby Penguins Ben Bishop Lightning NHL

The Pittsburgh Penguins will have to adapt to life without the services of superstar Evgeni Malkin for the next couple of games, beginning with a visit to the Tampa Bay Lightning Friday evening.

Shark Bites
  • The Penguins are 0-3 SU in their last three games on the road.
  • The OVER is 4-0 in Tampa’s last four games versus the Metropolitan Division.
  • The Penguins are 11-2 SU in their last 13 games versus the Lightning.

Online shop Bovada is currently offering the Lightning at -150 in moneyline markets while the Pens are +120. OVER 5 goals is presently -145 and UNDER is +115.

Malkin will miss the Penguins’ tour of sunny Florida as he has been ruled out for Friday’s contest in Tampa as well as Saturday’s visit to the red-hot Florida Panthers with what is being called a lower-body injury. Still, the Pens head into Friday's contest on fire of late and bring a four-game win streak to Amalie Arena. In their first game back from the All-Star break, the Pens scored at will in a 6-5 win over the Ottawa Senators Tuesday night.

The Pens have been lighting the lamp in their recent streak, averaging 4.25 goals scored per game in those wins. While Malkin’s punch will be missed – he’s scored four goals in that stretch – captain Sidney Crosby has really found his touch of late, tallying six goals in the Pens’ streak.

The Bolts extended their winning streak on home ice to seven games with a 3-1 victory over the Detroit Red Wings Wednesday evening. Furthermore, they’ve won nine of their last 10 games and sit just seven back of the equally-hot Panthers in the Atlantic Division.

The teams have met once this season with the Bolts skating to a 5-4 win in overtime courtesy a Vladislav Namestnikov winner.

Rangers are Struggling on the Road

Relying on the New York Rangers for consistent efforts has been a fruitless experience in 2016. The Blueshirts are just 1-11 in their last 12 games following a win, but will be looking to buck that trend Saturday when they tangle with division rival Philadelphia at Wells Fargo Center.

Shark Bites
  • The Flyers are 5-2 in their last 7 games following a win.
  • The OVER is 4-0-2 in the Flyers last 6 overall.
  • The Rangers are 3-7 in their last 10 meetings in Philadelphia.

Philadelphia is starting to figure it out after a rocky opening to the season and are 8-3-1 in their last 12 thanks to a big 6-3 win over Nashville on Thursday. Philly backers will be pleased to know the home side is 17-6 in the last 23 regular season meetings between these clubs.

Part of the reason the Rangers have been so inconsistent is their poor play away from Madison Square Garden. New York is a paltry 3-13 in its last 16 road tilts — a mark head that’s surely worrying head coach Alain Vigneault with the playoffs on the horizon. On the other side of the coin, the Flyers are 7-3 in their last 10 home games.
