Murray Pegged an Underdog in his Semifinal Match With Wawrinka

Stan Wawrinka and Andy Murray are set to square off in one of two French Open semifinals and the 2016 Olympic champ from Scotland has been pegged the slight underdog. Both men are world-class tennis pros who have seen plenty of each other over the years as this will be their 18th meeting on tour.

SHARK BITES
  • Murray has a career .588 winning percentage against Wawrinka.
  • Wawrinka won the French Open in 2014 but is 3-5 in Grand Slam semifinals.
  • Murray is 1-3 in 4 French Open semifinals since 2011.

Breezing through Kei Nishikori in the quarters 2-6, 6-1, 7-6, 6-1, Murray will be confident that he can get back to the final at Roland Garros for the second straight year to compete for his first French Open title.

Novak Djokovic, the man who beat him in the final of last year’s tournament, was beaten by Dominic Thiem last round and will not be a threat to Murray. This is important to note because the Joker is the only guy other than Roger Federer who’s beaten the current world No. 1 in a Grand Slam final.

Wawrinka, the tournament’s third seed, has not yet dropped a set at the French and is being offered as -140 chalk on the moneyline. Stan has been one of the best on tour since his Aussie Open win back in 2014 and is very much the definition of a late bloomer at the tender age of 32.
