UFC 107 Preview

B.J. Penn looks to dish out another beating this weekend when he puts his UFC Lightweight title on the line versus Diego Sanchez at UFC 107.

This will be Penn’s third title defense and the oddsmakers at bodog expect it to be a successful one {URL=http://sports.bodog.com/welcome/2761707/}after listing him as a -285 favorite {/URL}on their UFC 107 odds. Sanchez comes in as a +225 underdog.

Penn’s last title defense was at UFC 101 in August against Kenny Florian. Penn took down Florian with a rear naked choke in the fourth round to end the fight.

That was Penn’s fourth straight win at the Lightweight level. The only blemish on his record during that time was his Welterweight title bout loss to Georges St-Pierre at UFC 94. Penn enters this weekend’s bout with a lifetime MMA record of 14-5-1 with five wins by knockout and six by submission.

Sanchez made his name known in the UFC by winning the middleweight bout at The Ultimate Fighter 1 finale four years ago. Since then he’s gone 9-2 in the UFC, which includes winning his last four fights.

He last stepped into the octagon at The Ultimate Fighter 9 finale in June. That night he defeated Clay Guida by split decision and his lifetime MMA record stands at 21-2 with six wins by KO and nine by submission.

UFC 107 odds – Heavyweight bout

Also on the UFC 107 main card is a Heavyweight clash between Frank Mir and Cheick Kongo. Both fighters have a known hate for the other which should make for an interesting rumble in the cage on Saturday night. Both fighters are also coming off losses and need a win to stay among the contenders in the Heavyweight division.

Mir last fought at UFC 100 in July where he lost the UFC Heavyweight title bout against Brock Lesner by TKO in the second round. Mir’s MMA record stands at 12-4 with two wins by KO and seven by submission.

Kongo’s last fight was at UFC 99 in June. That night he lost to Cain Velasquez by unanimous decision. Kongo is now a lifetime 14-5-1 with nine wins by KO and two by submission.

Mir is a big favorite at Bodog at -225, while Kongo is a +185 underdog.
