Bellator 31 Betting Preview

Bellator fight fans in Louisiana on Thursday will get to see UFC Welterweight veteran Yoshiyuki “Zenco” Yoshida (11-5) take on undefeated knockout artist Chris “The Assassin” Lozano (5-0).

The main card will also feature two Bellator female tournament bouts, one to be fought at 120lbs between Jessica Aguilar (8-3) and Zoila Frausto (7-1), and the other to be fought at 115lbs between undefeated pound-for-pound No. 1 Megumi Fuji (21-0) and Lisa Ward (14-5). Fuji will bring her perfect MMA record with her when she faces Ward for one of the two spots in the Bellator female tournament finals. Fuji is widely considered the best female fighter below 120lbs, and she is expected to make quick work of Ward.

The two fought once before back in August 2007 with Fuji needing only four and a half minutes to lock in an arm bar on Ward for the submission victory. Fuji has already beaten Carla Esparza in the opening round of the tournament, and Sarah Schneider in her Bellator Fighting Championships debut this past June at Bellator 21. Most MMA fans expect her to cruise through any opponent she faces and that she will become Bellator’s first female champion when the tournament is done. Ward will be riding a two-fight win streak going into her fight with Fuji, but she will have to do something new to steal away a victory.

If Fuji can get past Ward she will have to face the winner of Frausto vs. Aguilar. Aguilar made it to the Bellator female tournament semi-finals with a win over Lynn Alvarez in July at Bellator 24. She has won her last four fights, all by submission or TKO, and we know she will be motivated to get to the next round. Zoila Frausto got to the semis by beating Jessica Pene at Bellator 25.

The only loss of her career came against Miessha Tate last March, and since then she’s racked up three straight wins. "Zoila and Jessica were both very impressive in their quarterfinal wins, so fans should expect a great fight between these two fast-rising stars in women's MMA," Bellator Chairman and CEO Bjorn Rebney stated. "Whoever is eventually crowned Bellator women's champion, they will have certainly earned that title."

Also on the Bellator 31 card will be five matchups featuring fighters from the Louisiana area.

Scheduled to fight are; Mark Holata (4-2) vs. Shawn Jordan (8-1) John Harris (2-3) vs. Kyle Miers (1-0) Tim Ruberg (2-0) vs. Aaron Davis (1-2) Dave Herman (16-2) vs. Michal Kita (10-4) Scott Stapp (2-0) vs. Mike Chandler (3-0)
