Bellator 64 Betting Preview
MMA betting action returns on Friday night when the Bellator Fighting Championships visit Ontario, Canada for Bellator 64.
On the line will be the Bellator Welterweight championship as well as a birth in the Featherweight tournament final and two Bantamweight semifinal spots.
Undefeated wrestling sensation Ben Askren puts his title on the line for the second time, and as expected the champ is a heavy favorite at the sportsbooks. Currently Bovada has MMA odds of -325 on Askren to defend his title against Bellator Season 5 tournament winner Douglas Lima.
Despite Lima’s nine-fight win streak, oddsmakers at Bovada have the challenger as a +250 underdog to take the strap away from Askren. This fight comes down to the same thing that all Askren fights come down to, whether or not Lima can defend against the takedown - and no one has been able to that against Askren to date.
Askren has been very dependable MMA action since day one and there’s real reason to doubt that will come to an end against Lima.
In the Featherweight tournament semifinal fight Alexandre Bezerra is currently a slight +150 underdog at Bovada against last season’s finalist Marlon Sandro. Sandro looks like a bargain at Bovada with MMA odds of -180.
This will be a close fight but the jiu-jitsu skills should even out any action on the ground, causing a stand-up battle where Sandro should have the edge.
The Bantamweight tournament quarterfinal fights pit Masakatsu Ueda (-400 at Bovada) against Travis Marx (+300 at Bovada) and Hiroshi Nakamura (-110 at Bovada) against undefeated Rodrigo Lima (-120 at Bovada).
Ueda is a Shooto standout currently on a five-fight win streak, while Marx makes his Bellator debut coming off a 3-2 record in his last five.
Nakamura’s underdog payout doesn’t seem very generous when one considers that Rodrigo Lima has won 10 straight fights.
