Bellator MMA odds action is available on four fights on the Bellator 79 fight card, which features Heavyweight and Featherweight tournament bouts.
In the main event Richard Hale will battle Thiago Santos for a spot in the tournament finals and a shot at the vacant Bellator Heavyweight title. Both fighters have been close to Bellator gold in the past but it’s Santos who gets the nod as the 5Dimes -165 favorite.
His combination of power and jiu-jitsu are expected to be the difference in this fight.
As a 5Dimes +125 underdog Hale will have a very good chance to upset his Brazilian opponent; if he uses his footwork and speed to keep Santos at bay he can take the bigger man into deep waters where he will have a big edge.
Mike Richman and Shahbulat Shamhalaev will battle for a spot in the Featherweight finals and oddsmakers at 5Dimes have Richman as a heavy -310 favorite. He has lethal striking and a top-notch submission game that should prove to be too much for his Russian opponent.
Shamhalaev will be taking a big step up in competition and will need a special effort to pay the 5Dimes upset option of +230.
Douglas Lima and Jacob Ortiz are matched up in a Welterweight fight that currently has Lima handicapped as a -390 favorite at 5Dimes. Before a decision loss to champ Ben Askren Lima was on a nine-fight win streak. The Ortiz upset will pay +270.
The other fight on the Bellator 79 fight card with action already available will also be fought at Welterweight and pits Kyle Baker against Ryan Ford. Baker is 1-2 in his last three bouts and will be in tough against Ford who is 6-1 in his last seven outings.
We like the -420 option on Ford despite the hefty price, while the +300 underdog option on Baker will only pay out if he’s able to land a lucky shot.
