Lawler, RDA Meet In Potential Title Eliminator

Former champions collide when Robbie Lawler and Rafael dos Anjos step inside the Octagon in Winnipeg on Saturday. Both Lawler and dos Anjos are known for their aggressive, crowd-pleasing style of fighting that is sure to excite hard-core and casual fans alike.

Shark Bites
  • Lawler has been taken down just once in his last 4 fights.
  • Lawler and dos Anjos have been finished a combined 10 times in 76 professional fights.
  • This will be dos Anjos’ third career fight – and his second consecutive – in Canada.

After losing the 170-pound title, Lawler took a year off from the Octagon but proved there was no rust in his return, picking up a unanimous decision victory over Donald Cerrone at UFC 214. Fans have grown accustomed to Lawler’s punishing striking style during his previous title reign, as his bouts with Rory MacDonald and Carlos Condit are some of the best in recent memory.

This will be just the third time in his 13-year career that dos Anjos fights at welterweight. The Brazilian decided it was in his best interest to move up to a more comfortable weight after a couple of tough losses at 155 pounds. The move has proven to be a wise one, as it looks like his cardio has been taken up a notch now that he is not depleting his system cutting as much weight. The only issue is size, as he did struggle to take down a much bigger Tarec Saffiedine when they fought.

With both men looking great and possessing aggressive fighting styles, it seems that oddsmakers don’t know which way to lean in this one. At the time of this writing, dos Anjos is a slight -120 favorite with Lawler coming back at -110 per Sportsbook.
