Strikeforce Betting Results Review

Strikeforce thought Welterweight champion Nick Diaz would have a tough time with top contender Evangelista “Cyborg” Santos, but it was just another day at the office for Diaz and his stiff jab.

The Bovada MMA betting lines had the Strikeforce Welterweight champion as a heavy -340 favorite against Santos (18-14), but it did not look like he was the favorite for most of the first round. Diaz (24-7-1) took numerous hard leg kicks from Cyborg and looked to be suffering the effects by the end of the first round.

But the champ came out in the second and increased the pressure on his opponent, working his stiff jab to perfection. After suffering too many strikes, Cyborg managed a successful takedown of Diaz, only to be rolled over and submitted by the champ via arm bar.

The other title fight on the Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Cyborg card produced a similar result as Middleweight champion Ronaldo Souza (14-2-1) defended his title against veteran Robbie Lawler (20-7-1). Souza was a heavy -312 favorite and also looked like he might be upset after losing the first round.

But after rebounding in the second, Souza came out in the third and landed a couple of knees that turned the tide of the fight. Shortly after he dragged Lawler to the ground and quickly gained his back. A few seconds later Lawler was tapping out from a rear naked choke.

Herschel Walker (2-0) looked impressive in his second professional fight, destroying Scott Carson (4-2) in the first round. The fight was as one-sided as it could have been, and if you thought Walker was safe money he paid -300 at 5Dimes. Walker should continue to be a good MMA betting option over his next few fights.

The fight that that was offering the best MMA betting line on this card was the -140 5Dimes price on Roger Gracie (4-0). Gracie easily handled anything that Trevor Prangley (23-7-1) threw at him and needed little time to get a double leg that turned into a full mount. He quickly adjusted his position and sunk in a rear naked choke to tap out Prangley at 4:19 of the first round.

The big upset on the Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Cyborg card was the +350 price that Isaiah Hill (5-7-1) paid to upset Bobby Stack (8-2). It was only the second fight that Hill won in his last 11, but the vicious flying knees he landed led to an easy triangle choke for the huge upset victory.
