Strikeforce: Los Angeles Preview
It's a mid-week special for MMA fans tonight with Strikeforce: Los Angeles.
The Strikeforce: Los Angeles card lost some of its luster after Bobby Lashley's fight with Ron Sparks was canceled due to a knee injury to Lashley. The main event still packs some punch, though, with Robbie Lawler set to face Renato Sobral at catchweight (195 lbs). The winner of the bout will get a title match in their regular weight class.
For Lawler that would mean a rematch with Jake Shields, the only fighter to beat Lawler in his last eight fights. Lawler last fought at Strikeforce: Miami in January when the defeated Melvin Manhoef by knockout in the first round.

Lawler has been a knockout specialist during his MMA career with a 19-5 record and 16 wins by KO. The oddsmakers are expecting another KO tonight after listing Lawler as a -160 favorite. Sobral heads into tonight's fight after having a five-fight win streak snapped in his last bout. That was at Strikeforce: Carano vs. Cybrog in August where he lost to Gegard Mousasi by KO early in the first round.
Sobral is a more experienced fighter than Lawler but lacks his KO power and is more of a submission specialist. In 43 career fights he is 35-8 with 18 wins by submission. With Sobral likely needing either a submission or a decision to defeat Lawler it's no surprise he's a +110 underdog in the bout. Don't fully count out Sobral, though, as four of Lawler's five losses have come by submission.
Also on the card in Los Angeles tonight is what could be a one-sided fight between Marius Zaromski and Evangelista Santos. Zaromski, the current DREAM Welterweight champion failed to add the Strikeforce Welterweight title to his haul in his last fight after losing to Nick Diaz by TKO at Strikeforce: Miami. He had won his last five fights before that defeat and owns a lifetime MMA mark of 13-4 with 11 wins by KO.
Santos' wife is Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos the Strikeforce: Welterweight woman's champion, but he hasn't come anywhere near her success in the ring. Santos is 17-13 in his MMA career, but he defeated Daniel Zarate in his last fight at Samurai Fight Combat 2 in December. Santos hasn't won back-to-back fights since 2006 and he isn't expected to change that tonight as a +220 underdog.
