UFC 117 Odds Preview
The UFC returns to pay-per-view this weekend with the latest title defense for Anderson Silva at UFC 117: Silva vs. Sonnen.
MMA fans will hope they get a better fight this weekend then they got the last time Silva stepped into the octagon at UFC 112. Silva made his sixth UFC Middleweight championship title defense and came away with a unanimous decision victory over Demien Maia.
The win was a controversial one though as Silva appeared uninterested in the fight and would not engage Maia while throwing insults at him. UFC head Dana White was so disgusted in the bout he pledge to cut Silva from the promotion if he delivered another farce of a fight.

Despite Silva's disappointing fight last time out he' still the reigning Middleweight champ and he's won his last 12 fight, most quite handily. Maybe there's a reason Silva appeared to get bored during his last fight because no fighters has come close to matching him in so long. The latest odds on this weekend's fight have Silva down as a -525 favorite at Bodog to make another successful title defense.
Hoping to end Siva's long streak at UFC 117 is challenger Chael Sonnen. He's on a three-fight winning streak and earned his shot at Silva with an upset win over Nate Marquardt in his last fight. He faced Marquardt at UFC 109 in February and won by unanimous decision. Sonnen is a lifetime 24-10-1 with seven wins by KO and he' s a +350 underdog versus Silva at Bodog.
Also on the UFC 117 card is an interesting Welterweight rematch between Jon Fitch and Thiago Alves. The two fighters clashed at UFC Ultimate Fight Night 5 way back in June 6, 2006 and have been trying to stage a rematch for some time. The rematch was previously scheduled at least twice before, but injuries kept postponing it until this weekend's event.
At their first fight Fitch came away with the win with a second round TKO. Fitch is looking strong right now after winning his last four fights, including his last bout against Ben Saunders at UFC 111 in March. Fitch is 6-1 in his last seven fights, with his one loss coming against UFC champ Georges St-Pierre, and he has only one loss in his last 21 fights. Alves got a title shot in his last fight, but couldn't beat St-Pierre. That fight at UFC 100 in July, 2009 went to St-Pierre by unanimous decision an snapped Alves' seven-fight winning streak. In the rematch Fitch is a slight favorite at -105, but Alves is right behind at -125 at Bodog.
