UFC Light Heavyweight champion Mauricio Rua has had to take a secondary role during the promotion of his UFC 128 title defense against Jon Jones, as all the hype has been directed towards the promising challenger.
Ever since the fight was announced bookmakers have made Jones the favorite to dethrone the champ.
The line on Jones started at -200 but has slowly dropped down in price to the current 5Dimes line of -185. We think that a bet on the challenger Jones to become the new UFC Light Heavyweight champion is a bargain at either price.
Rua may have a great deal more experience and is the healthiest he’s been since entering the UFC, but Jones seems to be an evolved fighter that’s a step better than the rest of the division.

The MMA odds on the main event may have changed a bit, but the big change to the UFC 128 card is the replacement of Yoshihiro Akiyama with Dan Miller. Miller gets the opportunity to move himself into the elite in the division with a win over Nate Marquardt at UFC 128, but the bookmakers at Sportsbook.ag have him as a heavy underdog at +250.
Despite the fact that Marquardt has dropped a couple of fights recently where he was an expensive favorite, he should be able to force the pace and wear down Miller in this fight. As usual a Marquardt bet to win won’t come cheap, and the cheapest price you’ll find is a -300 line at 5Dimes.
There are some longshot MMA odds available on Eddie Wineland to beat Urijah Faber at UFC 128. Wineland will pay +300 at while the favorite price on Faber will be a very expensive 5Dimes -500. Faber has dropped three of his last six fights and may be in the twilight of his career.
His speed that has served him so well throughout his career will likely be matched by Wineland, making any stand-up portion of the fight a toss-up.
As long as Wineland can keep the fight standing an upset is a real possibility. However, if he does end up in his back it will be all Faber until Wineland gets tapped out from one of many potential submissions.
If you like Brendon Schaub over Mirko Filipovic there’s a big disparity in the lines on him. The cheapest price on the favorite Schaub is a -240 line at Sportsbook.ag, and he’s as high as -312 at other books. The biggest underdog payout on Filipovic is at 5Dimes at +225.
