UFC 134 Betting Odds
You'd better be tough if you call the man who beats you in MMA a coward, but that’s what Anderson Silva did five years ago when he lost to Yushin Okami.
It was a pre-UFC fight for each man and Silva took a disqualification loss for a questionable illegal upkick during the match. Okami said he couldn’t continue and got the victory. Silva called it a ‘cowardly way to win.’
Silva has never tasted defeat since that day at Rumble on the Rock in Hawaii back on Jan 20, 2006. The Spider has reeled off 14 straight wins since then, most recently a violent front-kick knockout of whirlwind Vitor Belfort, including an unprecedented 10 straight middleweight title defences.

Now Okami has fought his way up to No. 1 contender status and faces Silva at UFC 134 in Brazil as a significant underdog. Betting at Bovada has pushed Silva all the way to -625 (meaning risk $65 to win $10 profit) while Okami, who has lost just twice since 2006 and is 26-5 overall, is a +425 underdog (meaning a $10 wager produces a $42.50 profit if he wins).
The card features another man looking to avenge a prior career loss as Maurico Shogun Rua is a -250 favorite to defeat Forrest Griffin. This could be a short-lived slugfest as both men come forward and punch. Griffin beat Rua in 2007 with a rear naked choke and has won two straight. The last time we saw Shogun, he was bloodied and bruised after losing his light heavyweight title to Jon Jones in March. Most observers expect a focused and determined Rua to rebound solidly here – hence the solid UFC 134 betting line in his favor.
The card, UFC’s first foray into Brazil since 1999, features mainly Brazilian fighters battling American foes. In what promises to be a fan-favorite scrap, legendary Minotauro Nogueira faces rising heavyweight contender Brendan Schaub.
Nogueira, with 20 submission wins on his 32-victory resume, has lost two of three (to Cain Velasquez and Frank Mir) and needs a solid showing to remain relevant at heavyweight.
