UFC Fight Night 78 Betting Odds Preview

Kelvin Gastelum

The UFC makes their way to the Mexico once again when the travel to Monterrey for The Ultimate Fighter Latin America 2 Finale. The main event features Kelvin Gastelum, the American-born son of Mexican immigrants, facing off against Neil Magny.

Gastelum is moving back to welterweight after going up to middleweight in his last fight following weight issues. Through his 12 career MMA fights, Gastelum has proven to be dangerous in all aspects of the game with four wins by T/KO, four by submission and three by decision.

Magny accepted this fight with less than three weeks notice after Matt Brown needed to withdraw due to injury. Magny, who was last inside the Octagon on August 23 in a split decision victory, has proven to be well versed in most facets of the fight game but seems to prefer the long game. In his career, Magny has 16 wins with eight of those coming by decision.

Co-Main Event: Ricardo Lamas vs Diego Sanchez

Despite a big name and stellar career, Diego Sanchez comes into this fight as a massive underdog. ‘The Nightmare’ is dropping down to featherweight for the first time in his career, which is 40 lbs less than where he debuted in the UFC in 2005 as a middleweight. Sanchez has gone just 2-3 in his last five fights, all of which have been by decision. Though Sanchez will be remembered from his younger years when he could seemingly stop a fight at any moment, he has not recorded a stoppage win since 2008.

Lamas is a guy that is sort of stuck in the featherweight division. ‘The Bully’ is clearly one of the best at featherweight, but losses to both Jose Aldo and Chad Mendes have stalled his career.

The Rest Of The Main Card

Henry Cejudo gets the first real test of his career when he faces off against longtime flyweight stalwart Jussier Formiga. Cejudo uses his Olympic-level wrestling to suffocate opponents, but Formiga is deadly on the ground with eight submission victories in his career.

The TUF Latin America 2 Finals are set to take place on the main card as well. Erick Montano will battle Enrique Marin for the welterweight crown while Enrique Barzola and Horacio Gutierrez fight to see who wins the lightweight bracket.

Leandro Silva and Efrain Escudero kick off the main card in a fight that pits two submission experts against each other. Between Silva and Escudero’s 42 professional wins, 23 have come by submission.
