UFC on Versus Jones vs. Matyushenko Odds

One of the reasons the UFC has climbed to such great heights over the last couple of years is because they periodically provide their fans with free fight cards.

Jon “Bones” Jones vs Vladimir Matyushenko

This Sunday on Versus the UFC will showcase one of their best young talents as Jon “Bones” Jones (10-1-0) takes on a true Light Heavyweight gatekeeper in Vladimir Matyushenko (24-4-0). Jones last fought on the Versus broadcast this past March when he completely dominated and then finished Brandon Vera in the first round. Also on the free card this weekend are two fights with big dog possibilities.

Matyushenko is a tough, experienced 39-year-old fighter whose best days are likely behind him. He will go into the fight as a +400 underdog at Bovada and will likely be in for a proper beating on Sunday night at the San Diego Sports Arena. Jones will pay -600 and should be a safe bet against this latest punching bag - as long as he’s learned to stop dropping those lethal elbows from illegal angles.

Yushin Okami vs. Mark Munoz The first potential upset bet on the card is the Yushin Okami (25-5-0) vs. Mark Munoz (8-1-0) fight. Okami has a conservative style that may not match up well against the relentless attacking style of his opponent. Munoz will have more than a puncher’s chance and could easily be the best fighter Sunday night.

The Filipino Wrecking Machine is coming off a second-round TKO over Kendall Grove and has looked impressive against all his opponents except Matt Hamill. Okami may have wins over names like Evan Tanner and Mike Swick, but he’s had difficulty with opponents who brought relentless action like Chael Sonnen and Rich Franklin.

Munoz will pay +165 for the upset while Okami will come in as the -210 favorite at Bovada.

John Howard vs Jake Ellenberger Another potential upset fight is the Welterweight matchup between John Howard (14-4-0) and Jake Ellenberger (22-5-0). Howard is the +140 dog against Ellenberger at Bovada despite coming off four straight wins in the Octagon, while Ellenberger lost to Carlos Conduit last September.

Ellenberger will pay -170 for the win despite the strong possibility that he will have a lot difficulty with Howard’s speed and athleticism. This fight will come down to Howard’s ability to keep the fight standing, and if he can he should be able to beat down Ellenberger for the upset win.

Tyson Griffin vs Takanori Gomi The other fights on the main card include an interesting Lightweight matchup between Tyson Griffin (14-3-0) and Takanori Gomi (31-6-0). Griffin recently lost to Evan Dunham and is looking to get right back in the title contention picture with a win over the hard-hitting Japanese legend.

Gomi was dominated by Kenny Florian in his Octagon debut and will likely need a win over Griffin to remain with the UFC. Griffin is a big favorite at -300 while Gomi pays +220 for the upset at Bovada.

Jacob Volkman vs Paul Kelly The fifth fight on the card is Jacob Volkman (10-2-0) vs. Paul Kelly (11-2-0). Both fighters are coming off wins and should be hungry for another. Kelly is a slight favorite at -105, with Volkman paying almost the same money -125 at Bovada. If you like a coin toss bet this is the fight for you. It also has potential to be fight of the night if both fighters put out the efforts they displayed in their last Octagon visits.
