UNC aims for Madness top seed

It is crunch time for NCAA hoops teams, whether its getting into the March Madness bracket or ensuring they get a top seed in it. UNC tries to cement its claim to a No. 1 slot after Pitt and UConn both lost yesterday.

ACC conference odds - Virginia Tech Hokies (18-13 7-9 ACC) vs. No. 1 North Carolina Tar Heels (27-3 13-3 ACC)

BetUS opened the Tar Heels as 11.5-point favorites in ACC conference battle.

If the Hokies can pull off the big upset it may get them into the NCAA Tournament. The Hokies have to play good all-around defense, as the Tar Heels are stacked with G Ty Lawson (15.9 ppg), F Tyler Hansbrough (21.1 ppg) and G/F Wayne Ellington (14.9 ppg).

For the Hokies to pull off the upset, their guard tandem of A.D. Vassallo (18.8 ppg) and Malcolm Delaney (18.2 ppg) have to shoot lights out and F Jeff Allen (13.8 ppg 8.7 rpg) has to score form the inside and not allow Hansbrough to dominate the glass.

These teams played a little over a week ago and the Tar Heels beat the Hokies 86-78 at Virginia Tech.

Look for the Tar Heels to be way too much for the Hokies, but since the Hokies are in desperation mode they should be able to cover the spread, but they will not win. Check the college basketball lines before wagering to make sure you get the best value.

Mississippi State Bulldogs (20-12 9-7 SEC) vs. South Carolina Gamecocks (21-8 10-6 SEC)

Bovada opened the Gamecocks as 1.5 favorites in this game.

Both of these teams should go dancing, but the winner should breath easy and the loser will have a tough few days until selection Sunday.

MSU won their last 3 games and they are a well-balanced scoring team with four players averaging over 11 points a game.

For the Bulldogs to pull off the upset they will have to play good perimeter defense on SC guards Devan Downey (20.2 ppg) and Zam Fredrick (15.5 ppg).

The Gamecocks lost their lone match up with the Bulldogs this season 75-70 at Mississippi State.

The Gamecocks come into this game losing two of their last three games with both losses coming by over 12 points.

The Bulldogs have a much better high-low game and they will need to score in bunches in the pain and play good perimeter defense, which they will do and move on in the SEC Conference Tournament.
