Underdog Nats nasty for chalk bets
Bettors who back favorites have been getting burned by Washington this week, as the Nationals have surprisingly reeled off four wins in a row.
Washington powered their way to their fourth straight win on Tuesday night with Adam Dunn, Cristian Guzman and Nyjer Morgan all going yard in an 8-3 win over Milwaukee.
The Nats were a +180 MLB moneyline underdog in the win. Josh Willingham had been providing the pop in the Nats other wins with three home runs and 10 RBI in the three contests.
To stretch their streak to five on Wednesday, Washington will need Garrett Mock to deliver a quality start while continuing to tee off on Milwaukee starter Manny Parra. Mock is 0-4 with a 7.06 ERA this season in 15 appearances, two as a starter.
He got the start against San Diego last week and was tagged for five runs on nine hits in 5 1-3 innings to take the loss. Parra has only one win in his last nine starts and is coming off a no-decision versus Atlanta in which he gave up four runs on 10 hits in five innings. Washington may be rolling, but they’re still a +175 MLB underdog on the baseball odds list at Bovada in tonight’s game.
Halladay makes Jays road favorites
Roy Halladay is still a Blue Jay and he leads Toronto up against the Mariners in Seattle tonight. Halladay picked up a no-decision in his last start against Tampa Bay, but it would have easily been a win with some run support. The Doc went nine innings and allowed two runs, only one was earned, with 10 strikeouts. The Toronto bullpen ended up giving the game away in the tenth and the Rays won 4-2. That’s been a regular occurrence for Toronto lately, especially when closer Scott Downs takes the hill. In four of his last five appearances Downs has been hammered, taking three losses while blowing a pair of saves. If Halladay can go the distance tonight Cito Gaston may want to let him, to keep the bullpen from giving away another one. Over at online sportsbook Bovada the Jays are a -175 favorite with their ace on the mound.
Royals MLB road chalk
The Royals check in as road favorites as well tonight with their ace Zack Greinke getting the ball. Kansas City is a -145 favorite against the Orioles at Bovada , but a Greinke start doesn’t mean an automatic win for the Royals right now. Kansas City is actually 0-4 in Greinke’s last four starts and they’re only 2-8 in his last 10.
The blame isn’t Greinke’s though; it’s the Royal’s hitters who aren’t showing up. In his last four start the Royals have scored only three runs. All of those starts easily went Under the posted total and with a 7-3 over-under mark in his last 10 outings Greinke is a solid Under pick right now. The total for tonight’s game in Baltimore was set at 8.
