Utah vs. TCU showcases Thursday college football odds
Rarely do you get a Thursday night game featuring Top 10 schools. Even rarer is when those top schools are outside the major BCS conferences. But that’s what happens tonight when TCU battles Utah with severe bowl consequences and the Mountain West title on the line.
Thursday college football betting preview: No. 11 TCU Horned Frogs -2 at No. 10 Utah Utes O/U 42.5
Tonight TCU travels to play undefeated Utah. The Horned Frogs are small 2-point road favorites here and are 9-1. They won their last game beating UNLV 44-10 while the 9-0 Utes beat New Mexico 13-10, but did not look good doing so.
Utah has a 9-game winning streak at home and in the last five meetings between these two teams, the Utes have won four. Both teams have great defenses, as TCU ranks second in the nation and Utah ranks seventh.
Of note, the total opened at 44.5 and has been bet down to 42.5 at SportsBetting.com, which has the lowest number if you want to bet OVER on the game. [custom:sportsbetting]
Even though the Horned Frogs are averaging more yards rushing per game, the Utes have piled up 520 yards rushing in their last two games. Utah QB Brian Johnson (1820 yds 14 TD 8 INT) has to bounce back from a bad last outing and play solid tonight, which will not be easy against the defense of TCU.
If Utah can stop TCU’s rushing offense, ranked 12th in the nation, they will be in good shape since the Horned Frogs passing attack is not strong.
TCU can win a share of the Mountain West title tonight with a win and the Utes have to win tonight and next week to win the title. The winner of this game has the inside track for a BCS Bowl bid.
This season TCU is 7-2 ATS and Utah is 4-3-1. The total has gone UNDER in 4 of TCU's last 6 games and TCU is 4-1 ATS in its last 5 games.
Saturday's college football odds
No. 4 Florida -24 (7-1) at Vanderbilt (5-3) –
The Florida Gators may overlook the Commodores after last week’s huge win over Georgia and that may cost them. Vandy does have good defense and they were ranked in the top 25 for much for the season. Add to the fact that the game is at Vanderbilt where the Commodores have only lost one game this year.
Don’t overlook the fact that Florida can now muscle its way into the BCS title game with some impressive wins, so expect Tim Tebow and company to pay attention.
No. 21 California (6-2) at No. 7 USC -18.5 (7-1) –
OK OK, so the Trojans have the nation’s top-ranked defense and have outscored their opponents 207-27 since being upset by Oregon State AND they are at home, but Cal is a legit top 25 team. The Bears beat Oregon last week and come into this game after winning two games in a row.
Can the Trojans cover 18.5 points? They have won and covered three in a row vs. Cal and the past four meetings all played UNDER the total.
