Week 3 Opening Odds Analysis
Since the betting public determines how much the NFL point spread will move and when it will move, there are some games where it may be better to bet early and other games where it may be better to bet late.
That’s right – knowing who to bet on is important, but so is knowing when to bet.
The Colts are 1-1 and play host to the 0-2 Jaguars as 5.5-point favorites. The Jags have had a tough time in Indy the last few years and they are off to a tough start. This is a game where they may be a lot of action on the Colts, which could force that -5.5 to -6 or higher.
Because of this, it may be a good idea to bet early if you plan to bet on the Colts, as the line may go up.
Also, even though the Falcons are 1-1, their D is solid and Michael Turner has the second-most rushing yards in the NFL. They play the Chiefs, who are playing horrid D and may start their third-string QB. With all this said, the Falcons are only 5-point favorites and are at home. This is another game to bet early in the week, unless you are looking to bet the Chiefs as underdogs.
At San Diego, the Jets are 1-1 and the Chargers are 0-2. The line of 9.5 for this game may look high when looking at their records, so the line may get bet down. Waiting to find out may pay off with a better line on the favored Chargers. Again, if you think the line will move down and you want to play the Jets, +9.5 might be the best number you will get all week so grab it now.
Carolina is 2-0 and Minnesota is 0-2 and the Vikes are favored by 3.5 points? The Panthers have not beaten creampuffs either, as they have beat Indianapolis and Chicago.
Because of this, if you want to take the Panthers, it is good to take the line early. If you like the Vikings to break into the win column, you may want to wait, as the line may move closer to even.
