Gamecocks hold off Tar Heels

The No. 7 ranked South Carolina Gamecocks gave up 12 points in the fourth quarter, but held on for a 21-15 victory over the North Carolina Tar Heels Saturday at Kenan Stadium.

South Carolina failed to cover the 7.5-point spread, while the combined 36 points were UNDER the posted total of 48.

Chris Smelley completed 17-of-26 passes for 172 yards with three touchdowns, and one interception for the Gamecocks.

T.J. Yates threw for 285 yards, completing 22-of-43 passes with a TD, while rushing for another in a losing effort.
