Boxing: Lomachenko vs Campbell Odds and Prediction

Lomachenko vs Campbell Betting Odds

The pound-for-pound king is once again in action on August 31 at the O2 Arena in London, England as Vasyl “Loma” Lomachenko defends his WBA (Super), WBO and The Ring lightweight titles while also going for the vacant WBC strap against England native Luke “Cool Hand” Campbell. As expected, the current champ, Lomachenko, is a huge -1800 favorite with the Brit, Campbell, coming back at +850.

Vasyl Lomachenko vs Luke Campbell

Lomachenko (-1800) looks to extend his 12-fight winning streak and take a step closer to unifying the four major lightweight titles. The Ukraine native already possesses two of the major championships – the WBC would give him a third, and a date with IBF champ Richard Commey would likely come later this year.

Loma is a fantastic technician in the ring, with exceptional footwork, creativity and accuracy. He does a tremendous job dancing out of the way of his opponent’s strikes, taking awkward angles toward his foe that allow him to have an open shot at their chin. Over his current 12-fight winning streak, nine victories have been by knockout or retirement.

Campbell (+850) lost the WBA and The Ring lightweight straps via split decision to Jorge Linares in 2017 – Linares ended up losing those titles to Lomachenko in May 2018. Since that narrow defeat, Cool Hand has rattled off three straight wins, two by knockout, which has put him back in line to regain the belts he lost two years ago.

The England native is quite tall and long for the lightweight division, with a 71-inch reach, and uses his jab very well, constantly pawing it out there and working behind it. Campbell also does a good job changing his jab from high to low and fires his powerful left hand frequently behind it. He does have a tendency to leave his punches out a little long and doesn’t bring the glove back to his chin immediately, which got him into trouble with Jorge Linares.

I expect Campbell to find some success early by using his reach and his good footwork to keep Loma away, but the Ukraine native is incredible at dissecting his opponent and going on the offensive. Look for Lomachenko to get Campbell to pivot on his back foot and catch him crossing over and he will let his heavy hands fly. The England native has never been finished but he has been dropped in the past.
