Golovkin vs Canelo 3 Betting Odds

GGG vs Canelo 3 Betting Odds

Just after the rematch between two of the best middleweights in the world, people are calling for a third fight. The odds are up for that potential trilogy battle and it is Saul “Canelo” Alvarez as a -125 favorite with Gennady “GGG” Golovkin coming back at -105.

The first fight ended in a draw that arguably (I will make that argument) GGG should have won by decision. The second fight was a lot closer and the judges were much better and they saw that it was Canelo earning the majority decision, despite the outrage of many people. Now, it only seems right for these two warriors to complete the trilogy.

GGG vs Canelo 1

The first fight was just as many expected when GGG and Canelo would step into the ring. As Golovkin pushed the pace, landing constant heavy jabs, Alvarez used his footwork and counters to do damage. Golovkin looked like he had taken the majority of rounds and appeared to be the more dominant fighter, despite a late push put on by Alvarez.

Although the two boxers put on a tremendous display for the fans, it was the judges that stole the show on the night of September 16, 2017. The individuals that hold the fate of the fight in their hands simply were oblivious to what was going on in the ring and were all over the place in their decisions. One judge scored the fight 115-113 for GGG, another scored it a 114-114 draw – both respectable decisions considering it was a close fight – and then comes Adalaide Byrd… Byrd scored the fight 118-110 for Canelo, making it a draw. Fans everywhere were outraged and a rematch was necessary.

GGG vs Canelo 2

Golovkin and Alvarez were set to do it again on Cinco de Mayo in 2018 but Canelo was caught taking a performance enhancer called Clenbuterol, although he claims it came from tainted meat. So, the fight was then postponed until September, two days shy of a year removed from the first bout.

Canelo had a much different game plan in the rematch, being much more the aggressor and forcing GGG to fight moving backward. Both fighters stood toe to toe landing and absorbing ferocious shots. The gladiators finished the fight bloodied and battered, while fans held their breath for the upcoming decision. Once again, the general public saw this as a narrow GGG victory, but the judges saw it another way.

One judge once again scored it as a 114-114 draw, while the remaining two judges scored it 115-113 for a majority decision win for Canelo, with it all coming down to the 12th round. With another close bout, it seems we’re destined for the trilogy.

GGG vs Canelo 3

Following the rematch, both fighters seemed game to do battle in a trilogy fight. GGG was the champ for eight years and just missed the chance to set a record with 21 straight middleweight title defenses. The loss in the rematch was GGG’s first ever so it only seems right to hand him the immediate rematch.

Golovkin’s promoter, Tom Loeffler, claims that if a trilogy does happen that it should go down at the boxing mecca of Madison Square Garden. The first two bouts both were at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas and Loeffler says a different venue would make a lot of sense.

Canelo has earned a draw and a win over GGG, the only two blemishes on Golovkin’s record, and is the younger man between the two. For these reasons Bovada has Alvarez as a -125 favorite with Golovkin coming back at -105.
