Klitschko vs Briggs Betting Preview

Vitali Klitschko lost seven years ago, a fight against Lennox Lewis that he was leading when doctors stopped it due to a major cut over his eye. Few expect any of those scenarios will happen Oct. 16 when he faces Shannon Briggs. He won’t lose, he won’t get cut and the score cards of judges won;t decide the outcome.

The monster Ukrainian opened as -1700 favorite for the fight in Germany. For the uninitiated, that means you need to wager $170 just for the hoping of winning $10.

IT’s not great odds, but it should be guaranteed money. Briggs, a former WBO champion, will throw wild left hooks hoping to catch Klitschko. But at 6-foot-7, Klitschko is a menacing opponent.

The pre-fight trash talk has not focused on the match, rather on comments Klitschko made allegedly trivializing asthma. Briggs suffers from asthma and demanded that Klitschko resign his UNESCO post on Oct. 1. Klitschko stated that Briggs was using asthma as a pre-fight excuse for his inevitable loss. “I’m going to be the heavyweight champion of the world,” Brigs recently told EastSideBoxing.com.

“Plan A is to knock him out in the 1st round, Plan B is to knock him out in the 2nd round, Plan C is to knock him out in the 3rd. And if I don’t knock him out at all, I plan on beating him in every round and that’s my main goal.”

Briggs has won via first-round knockout his past three fights, but against very poor competition. Klitschko has won three times in the past year, defeating Albert Sosnowski, Kevin Johnson and Chris Arreola.

Expect this fight to get a bit more hype in the USA, as Briggs is American and a freaky-looking cat with long blond braids. Don’t expect a whole lot of serious boxing betting action on it, even at +900 (meaning if you bet $100, you win $900).
