Usyk vs Bellew Betting Odds and Prediction

Usyk vs Bellew Betting Odds and Pick

The No. 9 pound-for-pound boxer in the world is back in action this Saturday at the Manchester Arena as Oleksandr “The Cat” Usyk defends his WBA (Super), WBC, IBF, WBO and lineal cruiserweight titles against Tony “Bomber” Bellew. The undisputed champion, Usyk, is a -800 favorite to retain his belts, with the challenger, Bellew, coming back at +500.

The Ukrainian-born champion has been favored in each of his last seven fights and is laying his undefeated record on the line. Usyk’s lowest odds were -330 when he fought Krzysztof Glowacki for his first major championship, a fight he won via unanimous decision. Meanwhile, this is the second straight fight in which Bellew is an underdog as he closed as a +200 underdog against David Haye in May of this year. He won that fight by knockout in the fifth round.

Will Usyk remain undefeated?

Usyk (-800) has been marked as a bigger version of No. 1 pound-for-pound boxer Vasyl Lomachenko and has even been trained by Anatoly Lomachenko in the past. The Cat is an intelligent fighter who relies on his great cardio and refined skills to put his opponents away, dragging them into deep waters while picking them apart along the way. The southpaw is a perfect 15-0 with 11 wins coming via knockout, but only has one T/KO finish since he secured his first major championship in 2016.

The 31-year-old’s last bout was an absolute picture-perfect display of boxing as he fought like his nickname, sliding in and out of range, seemingly never being touched, so much so that Murat Gassiev’s corner asked him midway through the fight if he wanted to continue.

The underdog is looking for a fifth straight knockout victory

Bellew (+500) is returning to the cruiserweight division after having a two-fight stint at heavyweight, both scraps coming against rival David Haye. The 35-year-old was victorious in both of those bouts, knocking out his fellow Englishman both times to run his T/KO streak to four. He now has 20 knockout victories to his name. Bomber has acknowledged the tough task ahead in Usyk, but he believes that his heavy hands can carry him to victory.

Prediction for Usyk vs Bellew

As is the way of many fights that I handicap, there’s always the puncher’s chance for one of the fighters, but I will always wager with the better overall boxer and in this case it’s Oleksandr Usyk. The Ukraine native is just so elusive and frustrating to his opponents while using terrific angles to pick his foes apart. Yes, Bellew has ferocious knockout power, but it’s hard to hit what you can’t see and the way The Cat moves around the ring, he brings this adage to real life.

Prediction: Oleksandr Usyk (-800) via decision
