Will Mayweather vs McGregor Break PPV Buy Record?

There is no doubt that Floyd Mayweather vs Conor McGregor is going to make an absolutely absurd amount of money. The real question is whether it will break all the box office and sales records.

The Sportsbook total for number of pay-per-view buys for the match is 4.99 million (-180/+130) at Sportsbook. The highest-selling PPV in boxing history belongs to Mayweather vs Manny Pacquiao, which did a reported 4.6 million buys. There isn’t even a close second, with Mayweather vs Oscar De La Hoya recording 2.4 million buys.

It’s clear that Mayweather can sell a fight based just on who he is, considering he took part in the top three PPV sellers of all time. McGregor has done well for himself in the PPV buy department as well with “The Notorious One” main-eventing the top three selling PPV events of all time.

Though the UFC events come nowhere near the buys that the boxing did, there is no doubt that a fight of this grandeur will bring out every single casual fan in the world. Five million buys appears like an absolutely ridiculous amount of sales, especially for a PPV that will be much more expensive than the usual events, but if anyone can do it, it’s Mayweather and McGregor.
