After failing to draw interest from NFL teams, Johnny Manziel has decided to take his talents north of the border and play for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the 2018 CFL season, according to Barstool Sports.
The OVER/UNDER CFL starts for Johnny Manziel in 2018 is at 7.5.
Manziel, who hasn’t played professional football since completing his second year with the Cleveland Browns in 2015, has had no shortage of both on- and off-field issues in his career but has been on the comeback trail in a big way lately. The 2012 Heisman Trophy Sportsbook recently participated in the NFL’s spring league, which was created for aspiring football players trying to make it back into the pro ranks. Manziel signed a two-year contract with the Ticats on May 19.
With Johnny Football set to return to the gridiron, sportsbooks are already gauging how he’ll perform in the Great White North. Sportsbook has released a few Manziel-related prop specials, including whether he’ll be on an active CFL roster by Week 21 (the end of the regular season) with the YES option at -200 and NO at +150, how many starts he’ll make in 2018 (OVER/UNDER 7.5), and odds on if the quarterback will start under center in Week 1 of the regular season (YES +200, NO -300).
Sportsbook is dealing more season-specific props, with odds available on how many interceptions Manziel will throw this year (OVER/UNDER 11.5), passing touchdowns (OVER/UNDER 23.5), passing yards (OVER/UNDER 3,900) and odds on whether the Texas A&M product will win the 2018 CFL Most Outstanding Player Award (YES +1000, NO -2500).
Is it truly #ComebackSZN for Manziel?
There have been plenty of Manziel naysayers throughout his tumultuous career, but it’s widely known this is likely his last chance to plant the seeds of a comeback to the NFL, and many players have used the CFL as a launching pad to get back to playing football at the highest level in the United States over the years.
Due to CFL rules, Manziel will not be eligible to play in the NFL until November 2019 at the earliest. The next two years are going to be pivotal for the Texan in order to get back into the good graces of American football, and as is always the case with Manziel, it’s certainly going to be interesting no matter what happens.
