Gagnon, Cousin Sal Continue Late Drive to Place in Ultimate Football Challenge

After the first two weeks of the season, Team Odds Shark’s Harry Gagnon and “Cousin Sal” Iacono found themselves among the leaders in the Golden Nugget’s Ultimate Football Challenge. With just two weeks left, Sal and Gagnon remain in contention to finish in the top 20 places that get paid out if they can each put together strong finishes.

Both of them went 4-3 in Week 15, with Gagnon’s ’Cuseboy entry staying one point ahead of Sal thanks to the New Orleans Saints blowing out the Indianapolis Colts 34-7 as 9-point home favorites on Monday Night Football, as future Hall of Fame quarterback Drew Brees broke Peyton Manning’s NFL record for most touchdown passes with 540. Week 15 featured just one college football game, and Gagnon also took advantage of that with an easy winner on Navy as a 10.5-point favorite against Army in a 31-7 rout.

Bowl season kicks off in Week 16 with two games on Friday and seven more Saturday, giving Ultimate Football Challenge entrants even more picks to choose from in the lone Las Vegas contest allowing them to make any combination of seven college and pro picks. Sal currently sits in a tie for 41st place with 60 points (59-44-2) while Gagnon is tied for 24th with 61 (60-43-2). The leader has 69 after going 4-3 in Week 15 as well.

While it is too late for Darren Szokoli to make a run at the money in the Ultimate Football Challenge, he deserves kudos too for finally getting back to the .500 mark with back-to-back solid performances to post his best standing since Week 1. Szokoli’s entry – The Parlay Kid – has gone 9-4-1 the past two weeks to move him up to a tie for 165th out of the 282 contestants overall with 52.5 points (51-51-3). His brother Brian (aka TheBrotherBri) has not been so lucky, going 2-5 in Week 15 to fall into a tie for 257th with 45 (44-59-2). The Ultimate Football Challenge has been the team’s best contest.

The only other team members with a winning record through the first 15 weeks are Odds Shark’s very own Joe Osborne and Joe Fortenbaugh in the Circa Sports Million. Osborne went 3-1-1 last week in the NFL-only contest to improve to 39-33-3. Meanwhile, Fortenbaugh managed to stay above .500 despite going 1-4 at 38-36-1.
