2025 Oscar Odds: Is Wicked Getting Snubbed In Major Categories?

The Oscar nominees are in for the 97th Academy Awards that will be held at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on March 2nd to recognize the best and most talented of the film industry in 2024.

Below are the upcoming Oscar odds for top awards like Best Picture and Best Actor/Actress. Sometimes I'm rolling with the favorites, while other categories I'm fading the favorite. After all, movies are subjective—I mean, my favorite films are the Twilight saga... and I'm not ashamed.

Unlike last year, when Oppenheimer was the clear Best Picture victor based on odds and critics opinions, this year's Film Of The Year Award isn't a dead giveaway. 

With The Brutalist slowly dwindling out of The Academy's attention and Emilia Perez being pushed aside after Karla Sofia Gascon's old tweets resurfacing, Anora has become the new betting favorite since February.

Notably, after picking up the a handful of top prizes at the SAG Awards, Conclave's odds have surged from +1600 (Feb. 12) to +200.

Right off the bat, I'm fading the favorite. Firstly, it's beneficial to my sportsbook account to cash a plus-money bet, anyways. Secondly, Mr. Timothee Chalamet is the talk of the acting world right now (and not just because he's dating Kylie Jenner, though that's a huge consideration for me). 

He's fresh off winning the Best Actor at the SAG Awards for his portrayal of Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown. His speech, where he claims to be in a pursuit of greatness, went viral across social media. His face has been plastered all over our screens and his accolades are piling up quickly. 

Even though Oscar votes are already locked in before SAG Awards are given out, there's been just two names who have won at the SAGs and didn't carry on to do the same at the Oscars in the last decade—Denzel Washington (2017) and Chadwick Boseman (2021).

Quite often we see celebrities take home Best Actor when they nail a role playing a legend. Think Rami Malek in Bohemian Rhapsody (2019), Gary Oldman in Darkest Hour (2018), Eddie Redmayne in The Theory of Everything (2015) or Daniel Day-Lewis in Lincoln (2013).

I'm personally pained to see Cynthia Erivo's odds this high, especially insulted she's sitting alongside Karla Sofia Gascon. Let's be honest, her acting in Emilia Perez left us confused and the singing and songwriting can't be compared to Wicked's legendary performance. Though my heart breaks from bias, clearly Erivo isn't in contention here. 

So, I'd rather give my kudos to Demi Moore. After approximately 44 years in this business, the 62-year-old is finally getting her flowers after her acting in The Substance. Moore already has picked up a Golden Globe for Best Actress in this role and a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance By A Female Leading Role.

Kieran Culkin has the heaviest odds to win of the main awards at the Oscars, standing confident as a massive -3500 favorite. Culkin has already easily snagged a Golden Globe, BAFTA, Screen Actors Guild, Critics Choice and more for his performance. However, his only knock, is many would argue to consider him more of the leading role in A Real Pain. With Culkin sailing away with awards, I wouldn't bet against him.

Anyone with decent eyes and ears would acknowledge that Ariana Grande's performance is superior to Zoe Saldana. Not convinced? Grande sang live in Wicked and it was her first major acting role, ever. Grande morphed into Glinda, a character she's known to have coveted her entire life since being s broadway super-fan. She took care of this role and it's evident in not only the film, but throughout all the press she did for it. I'm sure we're all aware of the tears she shed in every interview and red carpet.
