The final stage of the inaugural season of the Overwatch League is set to start on May 16. The grand final is quickly approaching and with teams still vying to claim one of the six spots in the first overall playoffs in league history, this stage is expected to be interesting.
Which Team Is Favored To Win Stage 4?
After making it to the finals in all three stages – and winning the last two – the New York Excelsior are +135 favorites to win Stage 4. The Excelsior didn’t seem to bring out their A-game through much of Stage 3 – rather, they appeared to save themselves for the playoffs. That is scary when you think about the fact that the NYXL went 9-1 in stage play.
However, once the Stage 3 playoffs rolled around and the team specifically implemented game plans to shut down their opponents, there was no doubt they are the cream of the crop in OWL. Specifically, Saebyeolbe stepped up in the playoffs, proving to be one of the best Tracer players in the world while complementing that with ridiculously good Widowmaker play.
What About The Boston Uprising?
Despite going a perfect 10-0 in stage play – and owning a 14-game winning streak in stage play – the Boston Uprising (+350) sit behind the NYXL per oddsmakers.
The Uprising have been getting better and better as the season has gone on and that goes double for Striker. The DPS has gotten him some MVP votes after his stellar play in Stage 3, as Striker now leads all players in elimination participation, percent of team’s hero damage and eliminations per 10 minutes.
Overwatch League Stage 4 Sleeper
Despite not yet making one playoff appearance, the San Francisco Shock (+1500) have proven to be a team to watch. The roster is still young and has dealt with a lot of changes throughout the season but it seems as though the Shock are finally starting to find their groove.
Extra time with Architect in the lineup – and working around the language barrier – combined with more experience from Super at the tank position should help the team. But the big change comes from the team bringing in Crusty – formerly of the Boston Uprising – to be their head coach.
Maybe it doesn’t all come together in this stage but the Shock have the pieces to be a dangerous team sooner rather than later.
