August is set to close with a bang for the Rainbow Six Siege community, with their first major since late 2020 set to take place from August 16-22.
The event is a crucial one as it not only offers a $500,000 prize pool, but also Six Invitational points – a qualifying system to the game’s world championship. There are just a handful of events every year that offer these points, so every single one is of utmost importance for teams.
Before we get into the juicy details of the event, make sure to check out our Rainbow Six betting guide, and let’s dive right in.
Who’s Playing At The Rainbow Six Mexico Major?
The major will feature 16 teams, with many representatives from different regions. We’ll see the favorites in NiP and Liquid, as well as the likes of G2, Na’Vi, TSM and other familiar faces.
All of these teams qualified for the major based on current regional standings, featuring four from Europe, four from North America, four from South America, two from Oceania and two from Asia.
Meanwhile, the event will be played in a standard Rainbow Six major format. This means four double round-robin groups, where each team plays the others in their group twice, followed by a single-elimination playoff bracket.

Ninjas In Pyjamas Aim To Continue Hot Form
NiP is definitely the hottest team at the event. Coming from the competitive Brazilian region, they are tied as favorites with regional rival Liquid.
However, recent results have definitely been favoring the Ninjas, who managed to take down their rivals twice on the way to a Copa Elite Six trophy. The team also completed a flawless run at the event, winning all of their series fairly convincingly.
It’s difficult to look past Ninjas in Pyjamas at the major, but with a whole new setting and much more pressure on the players, anything could happen.
Team Liquid Looks For Major Revenge
Liquid is undoubtedly one of the best in the world and their region. However, they’ve been playing second fiddle to NiP lately.
They have lost four matches in a row to the Ninjas, two of which were crucial playoff clashes, including even a grand final. Other than that, they’ve looked incredibly strong and very rarely drop series.
As such, Liquid is definitely a worthy favorite, and it’s very likely we’ll see the major come down to a NiP vs Liquid clash. This time, though, the stakes are higher than before and Liquid will be looking to make it count when it matters most.
Can Team Empire Strike Back?
Empire will likely be the squad carrying the hopes of the European region at this major, coming into the event off an impressive win in Stage 2 of the European League.
They’ll also be looking for revenge here as they plan a return to the top, most notably against one of the favorites, Team Liquid. The two teams met at the last international event, the Six Invitational 2021, where two fairly close losses saw Empire crash out.
Still, the odds are stacked against Team Empire, with the two Brazilian favorites being just that for a reason. However, if there was ever a place to put up an amazing performance and get back to the top level of Rainbow Six, this would be it.
