2016 Austrian Grand Prix Preview and Odds

Nico Rosberg Mercedes Austrian Grand Prix Formula 1

Nico Rosberg will defend back-to-back Austrian Grand Prix titles as the Formula 1 series moves to the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg, Austria for the ninth race of the season. Rosberg is coming off a first-place finish in Baku at the European Grand Prix, his first win since the Russian Grand Prix back on May 1.

The German enters the Austrian Grand Prix with a 24-point lead over Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton (141-117) and 45-point lead over Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel.

Despite the lead in the drivers’ standings, the back-to-back titles in Austria and his win in the last race, Rosberg is a distant second on the oddsboard here. That distinction belongs to Hamilton who is presently -200 at online shop Bovada while Rosberg is next on the board at +400.

Hamilton has been no slouch on this circuit as he has finished second behind Rosberg each of the past two seasons. The Brit does have a pair of wins (Monaco and Canada) this season and is coming off a fifth-place finish at the European Grand Prix.

One driver to keep an eye on this week is Force India’s Sergio Pérez. The Mexican is coming off an excellent drive in Baku where he finished third – his second third-place finish in the last three races (Monaco). Pérez, who is currently +15000, does have a pair of top-10 finishes in Austria in the past two seasons and has a lot of momentum and confidence entering the race in Austria.

Rounding out the top five on the oddsboard is Vettel at +1000, Kimi Raikonen at +1400 and Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo at +1600).
