Presidents Cup Odds & Betting Preview

As far as international golf tournaments go, the Presidents Cup is the equivalent of a red-headed stepchild to the Ryder Cup. That’s not meant to be a slight on the tournament, though. It’s a testament to how widely revered the Ryder Cup is. With the biennial Presidents Cup set for September 28 at Liberty National Golf Club in Jersey City, New Jersey, sportsbooks are expecting the home team to once again emerge triumphant.

At Bovada, the Americans are heavy -400 favorites to garner the hardware this time around. The Internationals are +400 underdogs, while there’s a long-shot +1200 chance of a tie.

Steve Stricker and Nick Price will captain the U.S. and International teams, respectively. Fred Couples, Davis Love III, Tiger Woods and Jim Furyk will be Stricker’s captain’s assistants for the Americans while Ernie Els, Tony Johnstone, Geoff Ogilvy and Mike Weir will be Price’s assistants for the International squad.

The Americans are the six-time defending champions, having dispatched the Internationals in 2005, 2007, 2009, 2011, 2013 and 2015.

The format consists of five matches of four-ball and five matches of foursomes. On the third day, four matches of four-ball and four matches of foursomes will occur. After that, 12 singles matches will be played on the final day. In all, 30 matches will be played. Got all that? Good.

The United States team features the 10 players who top the FedExCup points standings from the 2015 WGC-BMW Championship to the 2017 WGC-Dell Technologies Championship. For the Internationals, the top 10 golfers in the world rankings at the conclusion of the 2017 WGC-Dell Technologies Championship will tee it up in New Jersey.
