At Sportsbook, Rickie Fowler is the +800 favorite, with Justin Thomas (+1000), Rory McIlroy (+1100), Sergio Garcia (+1600), Tyrrell Hatton (+2500), Tommy Fleetwood (+2500), Gary Woodland (+3300), Alex Noren (+3300), Brian Harman (+3300) and Patrick Reed (+4000) comprising the rest of the top 10.
Fowler, a Palm Beach Gardens resident, is the defending champion after rolling to a four-shot win a year ago. Since then, the American owns six top-four finishes on the tour. Only the legendary Jack Nicklaus has gone back to back at the tournament, a feat he accomplished in 1977-78.
The 2017 Masters champion Garcia arrives to make his first start on U.S. soil in 2018, with many of his European counterparts also making the trek back to America with the first major of the year on the horizon. Ten of the top 25 players in the world rankings will tee it up at the Honda Classic. It’s going to be a home game of sorts for many, as Fowler, Thomas and Woods are among at least 14 entrants who have a home within 45 minutes of PGA National.
The course is a 7,110-yard par 70 that’s no stranger to hosting big events. PGA National was redesigned in 1990 to introduce golfers to the infamous “Bear Trap” closing stretch. Before the Honda Classic moved there in 2007, the course hosted 19 Senior PGA Championships.
