It’s not one of the PGA Tour’s Signature Events, but the Farmers Insurance Open can certainly feel like one given its location—Torrey Pines, the two-time major-championship layout in San Diego. The oceanfront setting has helped attract a good field for this week’s tournament, which is scheduled to include five of the top 20 players in the world led by +900 odds at Sportsbook favorite Ludvig Aberg.
Matthieu Pavon is defending champion of the event, which will see players split their first two rounds on Torrey’s North and South courses before playing the final two rounds on the South layout that hosted the U.S. Open in 2008 and 2021. To avoid a conflict with the NFL playoffs, sports bettors should be aware that this year’s tournament will begin on Wednesday and end on Saturday.

Among players who have participated in the event more than once, Taylor Montgomery owns the best career average finish at the Farmers at 18.3, followed close behind by Tony Finau at 18.8. The field includes six former champions including two-time winners Jason Day and Brandt Snedeker, and 2023 victor Max Homa. The odds favorite Aberg placed T9 last season in his Farmers debut.
Farmers Insurance Open Best Bets
Jason Day to Win (+2500) at Sportsbook
The Australian can be a bit hit-and-miss at Torrey Pines; he’s won there twice, but also missed the cut in two of the past four years. But those MCs were largely while he was recovering from a back injury, and his good performances in San Diego have been excellent—he owns a T2, a T3, a T5 and a T7 in addition to his two victories. Now injury-free, Day returned to form last season and was very good in last week’s AMEX, where he placed T3.
Hideki Matsuyama Top-5 Finish (+280) at Sportsbook
Torrey Pines’ length (the South course is a hefty 7,765 yards) puts a premium on approach shots, and few players are better with a fairway wood than Matsuyama. The former Masters champion put on a clinic in that regard on his way winning the season-opening Sentry in Hawaii, and his game translates well to the San Diego layout where he’s made eight straight cuts and finished as high as T3.
Max Greyserman Top-10 Finish (+300) at Sportsbook
The 29-year-old Duke grad has swagger to burn, and a game to match. Greyserman recorded three runner-up finishes in his final six starts last season, and placed T7 in his first full-field event of 2025 last week at the AMEX. While finding that breakthrough first victory has been arduous—Greyserman shot a 60 last season in Greensboro, and then blew the tournament with a late double-bogey—there’s no question the pieces are in place.
PGA Tour Farmers Insurance Betting Tips
It’s true, tournaments like the Farmers lose a little luster in the new world of LIV Golf and Signature Events. Top-five players like Xander Schauffele, Rory McIlroy and Collin Morikawa are all sitting this week out. And we’re still unsure of the return of world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, who needed surgery after cutting his hand on Christmas day and recently told reporters he’s unsure if he’ll be back for Pebble Beach next week.
But even in past years, the Farmers always offered a nice mix of betting options among both A-listers and journeymen alike. This is, after all, a tournament that Tiger Woods won one year, and Scott Stallings the next. Homa’s 2023 title was preceded by a victory by Luke List. Pavon last year held off the likes of Nicolai Hojggard, Stephan Jaegar and Nate Lashley. If anything, we’re probably likely to see more results like that as top players grow ever more choosy about where to compete.
All of which potentially opens the door this week for a player like Greyserman or Maverick McNealy (+3000 to win), who closed last season with his first career victory. Aaron Rai (+6000) posted an excellent track record in non-Signature Events in 2024, and has finished as high as T6 at Torrey Pines. Most of the big guns will be back in the field next week at Pebble Beach, so take advantage of value while you can.
