PGA Odds: Who Will Win a Major in 2016?

When any professional athlete’s career is over, championships are always the measuring stick in determining their success. NFL Hall of Famers are judged on Super Bowl wins, NBA titles tell the true legacy of ex-basketball stars and Stanley Cup rings are cherished more than individual records. The same can be said in the golfing world, as performance in major tournaments are the most important factor in gauging a golfer's legacy when all is said and done.

Online shop Sportsbook has released a prop on every player on the PGA Tour’s chances to win a major in 2016. With the Masters right around the corner, the time is now for sports bettors to capitalize on the value.

Jordan Spieth (-110), Rory McIlroy (EVEN), Jason Day (+150), Rickie Fowler (+350) and Dustin Johnson (+500) have the best odds to do so this season. Considering Spieth won two majors last year and narrowly missed a third, it’s no surprise to see the 22-year-old topping the list, however he hasn’t resembled the player he was in 2015.

Day recently reclaimed his world No. 1 ranking and has a very good opportunity to keep the ball rolling after winning multiple times in the last few months. Johnson is arguably the best player to never win a major, and when you take into account his 18th hole meltdown at the US Open last year, it’s hard to back him in this regard.

Bubba Watson is very familiar with Augusta having won there in 2012 and 2014, and his price of +550 looks appealing. The same can be said for Adam Scott (+550), as the Aussie is the hottest player on the Tour right now and is clearly in the zone heading into major season.

Veteran Phil Mickelson (+1000) can never be counted out either. Lefty has more experience than many other players combined and he hasn’t shown any signs of slowing down at age 45.

Here’s a look at the book’s full list. The first major of the season - the Masters - gets underway on April 7.
