Odds to Win the 2019 Travelers Championship

With the 2019 edition of the U.S. Open in the books, it’s time to turn our attention to the Travelers Championship. Although a lot of the biggest names on the PGA Tour are taking the week off to recover from the U.S. Open, this week’s field is still a solid lineup with the likes of Brooks Koepka, Jordan Spieth, Justin Thomas and Jason Day teeing it up.

The tournament takes place at TPC River Highlands in Connecticut, the only event to be held in the New England area this year. It’s one of the shortest tracks on the tour with it playing as a par 70, measuring roughly 6,844 yards. Handicapping this event can be difficult due to the course not having any defining features outside of its 119 bunkers. Golfers who have a high save percentage from the sand will have a slight edge when they find themselves in a beach.

One thing that can be said for certain is that the winning score will be a low one. Winners of this tournament have gone 20 under par three times since 2000, while Jim Furyk was the first person on the tour to shoot a 58 when he did it here in 2016.

Brooks Koepka sits as the +750 favorite to win this tournament at Bovada after coming up just short to win the U.S. Open for the third time last week.

A trend of repeat winners

When handicapping events that are held at courses with limited defining features like TPC River Highlands, the most important thing to look at is how golfers have performed at this course in the past. This is especially interesting because we seem to see the same golfers finish close to the top year in and year out at the Travelers Championship.

Bubba Watson won the event for the third time last year when he finished with a score of -17. His first two wins came in 2010 and 2015. You can back him to win once again this weekend at +2800 (28/1).

Phil Mickelson also won this event in back-to-back years in 2001 and 2002. He returns to the tournament this year and his odds are set at +5000.

Paul Casey is another golfer who has had success at this course, but he has yet to get a win. He finished second in 2015 and since then he has finished 17th, T5 and then T2 again last year.

Other previous winners who are in the field this weekend include: Jordan Spieth (+1600), Russell Knox (+6000), Kevin Streelman (+5000), Marc Leishman (+2800), Freddie Jacobson (+40000) and Hunter Mahan (+25000).
