2020 3M Open: Odds to Win and Latest News

Matthew Wolff at the 18th green during the final round of the inaugural 3M Open.

The final round of the PGA 3M Open at the TPC Twin Cities will tee-off today and with 18 holes to go, Michael Thompson and Richy Werenski share the top spot on the leaderboard and on the oddsboard as co-favorites to win the tournament.

Thompson and Werenski each are listed at +300 to win the 3M Tournament after opening at +8000 and +10000, respectively. Through 54 holes, they share a score of -15, which is two shots ahead of Tony Finau and Charl Schwartzel.

Dustin Johnson opened as the 3M Open tourney favorite at +1100 but had to pull out after the first round due to a back injury. Last year’s tourney winner, Matthew Wolff, had a bit of struggle in the third round with a posted score of 70 and has odds at +3300 to close the five-shot gap.

Here's a look at top 20 golfers on the oddsboard along with their opening odds to win the 3M Open:

Wolff Returns Looking to Defend His Title

Matthew Wolff has picked up right where he left off by turning in a -10 scorecard after three rounds but will need to pick up the pace to win back-to-back 3M Opens. If you recall, Wolff kicked off his professional career with a win at the 2019 3M Open and a convincing -21 score, collecting his first tour victory less than a month after making his pro debut at the Travelers Championship.

Wolff also finished as the runner-up at the Rocket Mortgage Classic a few weeks ago and is just the third golfer in history to win an NCAA individual national championship and a PGA Tour tournament title in the same year. Ben Crenshaw and Tiger Woods are the only other two men to accomplish the feat.

With current odds at +3300, he would need a few breaks to go his way to chase down Michael Thompson and Richy Werenski but should not be counted out to win a second time at the Twin Cities.

3M Open Course Betting Tips

If last year's event was any indication, high scores should once again be in the forecast in Minnesota this week and after two rounds, the cutline is -2 with five players posting double-digit scores. It's a major change from last week's Memorial Tournament, which played more like a major and saw golfers struggle to get birdies across the board.

This is one of the easiest courses on the tour to drive, both in terms of distance and accuracy. Last year, almost 66 percent of fairways were hit, with the average driving distance sitting over 300. Three of the four par 3s measure over 204 yards, and there are two par 4s over 500 yards. Players who are known to hit bombs off the tee have been very comfortable at the course through two days.

The greens are manageable, finishing in the top 20 hardest on the tour last year. Excelling with the flat stick is a bonus but is not necessarily crucial at TPC Twin Cities. The easiest stretch on the course is hole Nos. 3 through 6, so expect golfers to go low on those four holes.

Here’s a helpful guide of some of the different betting options for the 3M to help you put some extra cash in your pocket while wagering on golf.

Golf is unique for many reasons, but one of them is the significant number of betting props available at weekly tournaments. The 3M Open is no different!

Sportsbooks are offering odds on things like whether there will be a hole-in-one, OVER/UNDERs on the winning score for the eventual champion and odds on which players from specific countries will have the lowest score, to name a few.

Like other sports, betting on props is a fun and unique way to enhance your golf gambling experience.

Live Betting

Live Betting is arguably one of the most exciting ways to bet on golf. If the player you placed a pre-tournament bet on is out of the running at any point during the 3M Open, you can bet on another golfer as the days go by and have another stake in the game.

If there are only a few men in the hunt on the final day, the odds likely won’t be significantly high, but your chances of winning are. We've seen this happen multiple times in the PGA Tour's Return to Golf, as multiple tournaments have gone to a play-off.
