Odds to Win the 2020 CJ Cup

The CJ Cup is perennially played on South Korea’s Jeju Island, but the 2020 edition of the tournament will be in America due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Shadow Creek Golf Course in North Las Vegas, Nevada, will serve as the new setting for the event from October 15-18. The PGA Tour is having back-to-back tournaments in Vegas after last week’s Shriners Hospitals for Children Open, which was won by Martin Laird.

When it comes to odds on which golfers have the best chance to win the CJ Cup, Bovada has you covered. Jon Rahm is the +850 favorite, followed by Justin Thomas (+1100), Rory McIlroy (+1200), Xander Schauffele (+1200) and Matthew Wolff (+1600).

Dustin Johnson entered the week as the front-runner to win the CJ Cup but was forced to withdraw on Tuesday after testing positive for COVID-19.

Here’s a look at the golfers with the likeliest odds to emerge triumphant in Sin City this week:

The World’s Best are Descending on Las Vegas

Brooks Koepka, who won the 2018 CJ Cup, is set to make his return after a two-month layoff due to injury. Koepka is priced at +2800 to win his second CJ Cup. The last time we saw Koepka was in mid-August at the Wyndham Championship, where he failed to make the cut.

Four of the top five golfers in the Official World Golf Ranking will be teeing it up at the CJ Cup. As a result, bettors can find value that otherwise wouldn’t be available by getting some talented golfers at long-shot odds due to the strength of the field.

The winner of the CJ Cup will receive 500 FedExCup points.

Thomas is Lights-Out at the CJ Cup

Thomas has dominated this tournament, as the American has won two of the three CJ Cups in South Korea and will be hoping that success translates to the United States.

Last year, Thomas shot a 5-under 67 on Sunday to top South Korean-born Danny Lee by two shots. Thomas held the 54-hole lead and went on to claim the hardware despite making a bogey on the par-3 17th hole, finishing No. 18 with a birdie.

Hideki Matsuyama, Gary Woodland and Cameron Smith placed at 15 under and rounded out the top five last year.

The course, a 7,527-yard par 72, is widely regarded as one of the most exclusive golf courses in the world.

It played host to the made-for-TV match between Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson in 2018, which served as a coming-out party of sorts for the venue. Johnson owns the course record (66) at Shadow Creek.

Here’s a helpful guide to some of the different betting options for the CJ Cup to help you put some extra cash in your pocket while wagering on golf.

Props

Golf is unique for many reasons, but one of them is the significant number of betting props available at weekly tournaments. The CJ Cup is no different.

Sportsbooks are offering odds on things like whether there will be a hole-in-one, OVER/UNDERs on the winning score for the eventual champion and odds on which players from specific countries will have the lowest score, to name a few.

Like other sports, betting on props is a fun and unique way to enhance your golf gambling experience.

Live Betting

Live Betting is arguably one of the most exciting ways to bet on golf. If the player you placed a pre-tournament bet on is out of the running at any point during the CJ Cup, you can bet on another golfer as the days go by and have another stake in the game.

If there are only a few men in the hunt on the final day, the odds likely won’t be significantly high, but your chances of winning are. We’ve seen this happen multiple times in the PGA Tour’s Return to Golf, as multiple tournaments have gone to a playoff.
