Russell Henley is one of our picks for the John Deere Classic

2023 John Deere Classic Odds & Picks: Henley Eyes Second Win This Season

After an exciting conclusion to the 2023 Rocket Mortgage Classic at Detroit Golf Club, the PGA Tour remains in the Midwest for the 2023 John Deere Classic in Silvis, Illinois.

A regular stop on the calendar, the John Deere Classic has catered to rookies, young stars and emerging veterans at TPC Deere Run.

Last season, it was J.T. Poston who returned to the winner’s circle after experiencing his fair of close calls. Capturing his second career victory at TPC Deere Run, Poston is now listed at +5000 this year to defend his title.

Denny McCarthy is the betting favorite at +1400 and rightfully so. The University of Virginia product has rattled off three straight top-20 finishes including strong results at the Memorial Tournament and the Travelers Championship.

Russell Henley hopes to become the seventh multiple-time winner this season while Cameron Young is still in search of his first career victory.

Former world No. 1 amateur turned professional Ludvig Aberg rounds out those players listed at or below +2000 after he got off to a hot start in Detroit before fading over the weekend.

2023 John Deere Classic Picks

With a lot of value on the board, we've got a five-pack of picks for you to consider.

Russell Henley To Win +1600

A winner already this season at Mayakoba, Henley continues to impress and could be on the outskirts of playing himself on the U.S. Ryder Cup Team.

A victory this week would muddy the waters from which Captain Zach Johnson needs to select his team, and there is nothing Henley would love more than to make it difficult for the headman.

He arrives in Silvis with eight top-20 finishes in his last nine starts including strong efforts at the Masters, U.S. Open and more recently the Travelers Championship where a strong final round propelled him to a T-19 result.

Over the last three months, he is the only player in this field to be gaining more than +2.0 strokes gained per round, ranking first in total strokes gained, first in strokes gained tee to green, second in strokes gained approach and eighth in strokes gained around the green.

Byeong Hun An To Win +4500

The South Korean disappointed us at the Rocket Mortgage Classic as he made a rare early exit from the Detroit area. Look for An to bounce back in a major fashion a state over in Illinois.

An has been terrific over his last three months ranking fifth in driving distance, second in strokes gained tee-to-green, second in strokes gained off the tee and inside the top 25 of strokes gained approach and strokes gained around the green of those in the field.

The only issue has been his putter, but TPC Deere Run has been a spot for poor putters to find some form. Ryan Moore and Lucas Glover are among past champions at this event and mirror the statistical profile and current form of An.

Beau Hossler To Win +5000

This will be Hossler’s third appearance at the John Deere Classic. He has experienced a so-so tournament with a missed cut and a top-30 finish to his name.

He is reeling with three straight missed cuts, but despite his short week in Detroit may be closer than some may suggest. Hossler gained over two strokes on approach over 36 holes at the Rocket Mortgage Classic and struggled in the areas of his game which typically shine through as his strengths.

If able to return to his historical levels on and around the green, Hossler should be able to find some form in Illinois as he ranks inside the top 30 in total strokes gained, strokes gained tee to green, strokes gained off the tee, strokes gained around the green and strokes gained putting over the last three months among this field.

Ryan Palmer To Win +6000

The 46-year-old is very close to a breakthrough, and perhaps it will come at TPC Deere Run where he has played 11 times prior.

Palmer’s last appearance in this tournament yielded a top-20 result and given the way which he is playing, a similar finish and a run at the title could be near.

He has now made four of five cuts with one finish resulting in a top-10 effort. Palmer is among the best in this field in setting himself up for birdies which is a needed factor this week. He also ranks third in strokes gained tee-to-green, 11th in strokes gained off the tee and sixth in strokes gained approach over the last three months.

Joseph Bramlett To Win +7000

Bramlett is 0-for-3 in his career making the cut at the John Deere Classic and has missed two straight cuts coming into this week.

Despite this, there are a number of reasons to be excited about his prospects this time around. Bramlett ranks inside the top 10 in driving distance and strokes gained tee-to-green and inside the top 20 in strokes gained off the tee, strokes gained approach and strokes gained around the green over the last three months.

During this stretch, he has put together a plethora of quality finishes including a T-16 result at the Memorial Tournament, T-19 finish at the Byron Nelson and a top-10 finish at the Mexico Open.

It is true he will need to putt better to enter the winner’s circle for the first time in his career, but given the lack of strength in this field, he is worthy of investment at this price.
