Odds to Win the Waste Management Phoenix Open

One of the most anticipated events of the PGA Tour season gets underway this week when the 2019 edition of the Waste Management Phoenix Open takes place at TPC Scottsdale in Scottsdale, Arizona. According to sportsbooks, Jon Rahm is the favorite.

Rahm is the +750 front-runner at Bovada, with Justin Thomas (+900), Hideki Matsuyama (+1200), Xander Schauffele (+1600), Gary Woodland (+1800), Rickie Fowler (+1800), Webb Simpson (+2000), Tony Finau (+2000), Phil Mickelson (+2200) and Matt Kuchar (+2800) rounding out the top 10.

Plenty of talent set to descend on TPC Scottsdale

22 of the top 30 players in the FedExCup standings will be in Phoenix.

In all, 22 of the top 30 players in the latest FedExCup standings will be in attendance in Arizona. Matsuyama is back to seek a third victory in a four-year span, with the only failure in that span coming last year when his quest for a three-peat was derailed due to a wrist injury that forced him to withdraw after one round. Matsuyama’s 2016 and 2017 victories both came in playoffs.

Kuchar and Schauffele are the only two-time winners in the 2018-19 campaign, yet they’ll be in tough in the star-studded field. Mickelson, a three-time Phoenix Open champion, is looking to become the tournament’s first four-time winner. The American is currently tied with Arnold Palmer, Gene Littler and Mark Calcavecchia.

Woodland looking to build off strong 2018 performance

Woodland collected his first victory in 4 1/2 years here in 2018, dispatching Chez Reavie in a one-hole playoff. Woodland birdied three of his last four holes in regulation to close the final round with a 7-under 64. The triumph was Woodland’s third career tour win and his first since the 2013 Reno-Tahoe Open.

The course, a 7,261-yard par 71, is known for its rabid stadium-like atmosphere, particularly surrounding the par-3 16th hole. Only nine men have aced No. 16 at TPC Scottsdale. Calcavecchia (2001), Mickelson (2005 and 2013) and Grant Waite (1996) share the 18-hole record of 60, while Calcavecchia (2001) and Mickelson (2013) possess the 72-hole record of 256.
