Odds to Win the Waste Management Phoenix Open

Odds to Win the Waste Management Phoenix Open

The PGA Tour hits the desert this week for the 2020 edition of the Waste Management Phoenix Open. According to sportsbooks, Jon Rahm is the favorite to win the title at TPC Scottsdale in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Rahm is the +650 front-runner at Bovada, with Justin Thomas (+900), Webb Simpson (+1400), Hideki Matsuyama (+1400), Rickie Fowler (+1600), Xander Schauffele (+1800), Bryson DeChambeau (+2800), Bubba Watson (+2800), Gary Woodland (+2800) and Matt Kuchar (+2800) behind the Spaniard on the oddsboard.

Crowd Favorite Rahm Will Be Comfortable in His Surroundings

Rahm is coming off a runner-up showing last weekend at the Farmers Insurance Open despite holding the 54-hole lead. The 25-year-old, who went to nearby Arizona State University, is always a crowd favorite in Scottsdale. Rahm posted a T-10 at this event a year ago.

Thomas is looking for his third win of the 2019-20 PGA Tour season, having already claimed the CJ Cup @ Nine Bridges and the Sentry Tournament of Champions to open the calendar year. In total, three of the top five golfers in the FedExCup standings will tee it up in Arizona. Matsuyama won the 2016 and 2017 Waste Management Phoenix Opens to become the first back-to-back champion since Johnny Miller accomplished the feat in 1974 and ‘75.

Fowler is Back to Defend His Championship

Last year, Fowler picked up his fifth career PGA Tour victory here despite a bizarre triple bogey on the par-4 No. 11 in the final round. The American ended up winning by two strokes over Branden Grace, as Thomas came in third at three shots back. The triumph broke a two-year winless drought for Fowler.

The course, a 7,261-yard par 71, is the backdrop for one of the best-attended events on the tour year in and year out. The massive structure surrounding the par-3 16th hole is one of the craziest spectacles in golf due to the stadium-like atmosphere. Grant Waite, Mark Calcavecchia and Phil Mickelson share the 18-hole record of 60 at TPC Scottsdale, while Calcavecchia and Mickelson possess the 72-hole record of 256.
