Odds to Win the WGC-Dell Technologies

A group walks down the fairway of the 12th hole during the quarterfinals of the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play on March 24, 2018 at Austin Country Club in Austin, TX.

The third World Golf Championship event of the PGA Tour season gets underway this week in the Lone Star State when the WGC-Dell Technologies kicks off at Austin Country Club in Austin, Texas. According to sportsbooks, Dustin Johnson and Rory McIlroy are the co-favorites to go all the way.

Johnson and McIlroy are the +900 co-favorites at Bovada, with Justin Thomas (+1400), Jon Rahm (+1600), Jason Day (+2000), Justin Rose (+2000), Tommy Fleetwood (+2000), Brooks Koepka (+2200), Tiger Woods (+2200) and Bryson DeChambeau (+2500) rounding out the top 10.

Tiger’s back for the first time since 2013

In all, 62 of the top 64 players in the world golf rankings will be in attendance at the WGC-Dell Technologies. Woods, a three-time match play champion, is set to make his return to the tournament for the first time since 2013 when it featured a straight-knockout format. The only two men absent from the world rankings are Rickie Fowler and Adam Scott, who declined their invite for the second year in a row.

The match play format is unique for a number of reasons, and it’s the only WGC event that is not stroke play. Since 2015, the event starts with pool play with 16 groups of four players playing round-robin matches Wednesday through Friday. The winners from each group then advance to a single-elimination bracket on the weekend, with the round of 16 and quarterfinals on Saturday. Sunday features the semifinals, finals and consolation match.

Watson is looking to go back To back

Last year Bubba Watson came away with his second WGC crown, topping Kevin Kisner on the final day for a 7&6 victory. Watson never trailed in the 28 holes he played on Sunday, which began with a 3&2 semifinal triumph over Justin Thomas. Watson is +2800 to go back to back at the WGC-Dell Technologies.

The course, a 7,180-yard par 71, is in its fourth year as the tournament host. The front and back nine are distinctly different, with the front nine on higher ground than the last nine holes, which feature a much more scenic backdrop.
