PGA Championship Betting Odds & Preview

With an epic conclusion to the Open Championship in the books, only one major remains on the 2017 PGA Tour schedule: the PGA Championship.

When it comes to betting odds, Rory McIlroy is the +600 favorite, with Jordan Spieth (+900), Hideki Matsuyama (+1200), Dustin Johnson (+1200), Rickie Fowler (+1400), Jon Rahm (+2200), Brooks Koepka (+2200), Jason Day (+2800), Justin Rose (+4000) and Justin Thomas (+4000) right behind him.

This year’s tournament is taking place at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina, marking the first time a major event has been played at the course. Quail Hollow is known for producing high-caliber winners, as Tiger Woods, Anthony Kim, Fowler and McIlroy (twice) have all triumphed here.

Jimmy Walker came out of nowhere to win the 2016 edition — his first major — and was available pre-tournament for a ridiculous price of +12500. Walker is once again at +12500 to repeat this time around.

The opening round of the 98th PGA Championship featured beautiful weather, inaccurate driving and some huge names fall out of contention at a rapid pace.

Heading into Friday, Jimmy Walker leads the pack at 5 under par. Emiliano Grillo (-4), Ross Fisher (-4), Martin Kaymer (-4), Harris English (-3), James Hahn (-3), Andy Sullivan (-3) and Henrik Stenson (-3) sat atop the leaderboard. Goliaths like Rory McIlroy (+4) and Dustin Johnson (+7) will be in tough to even make the cut at Baltusrol.

At Bovada, Stenson is a +500 favorite to hoist the Wanamaker Trophy. The Open Championship winner played well on Thursday, but if his putter heats up like it did at Royal Troon he’ll have a great shot of going all the way.

Jason Day (+600), Kaymer (+1200), Rickie Fowler (+1400), and Walker (+1400) are at the top of the odds list.

If you’re thinking about placing a bet on Walker right now, you should take note of one specific stat. In the last 15 years, only one first-round leader went on to win the PGA Championship. That man was wily veteran Phil Mickelson.

Hours before tee-off at the 98th PGA Championship, a new favorite has emerged at sportsbooks.

Rory McIlroy has a +650 shot of hoisting the Wanamaker Trophy at Bovada - a huge jump from the +900 price he had on Wednesday. Yesterday I wrote about why I believe the native of Northern Ireland will win, which you can read here.

Dustin Johnson (+800), Jason Day (+1000), Jordan Spieth (+1400), Henrik Stenson (+1600), Phil Mickelson (+1800), Sergio Garcia (+2200), Adam Scott (+2800), Justin Rose (+2800) and Bubba Watson (+3300) are behind McIlroy at the shop.

As far as weather is concerned, today will be the hottest day of the tournament. Temperatures are expected in the mid-90s in the Springfield, New Jersey area but there should be clear skies. Inclement weather will likely play a factor in the remaining three rounds.

A day before the 2016 PGA Championship kicks off at Baltusrol Golf Club, sportsbooks are holding steady when it comes to outright winner odds.

At online book Bovada, Dustin Johnson is a +800 favorite to hoist the Wanamaker Trophy. Rory McIlroy (+900), Jason Day (+1000), Jordan Spieth (+1400), Henrik Stenson (+1400), Phil Mickelson (+1800), Sergio Garcia (+2200), Adam Scott (+2500), Justin Rose (+2800) and Rickie Fowler (+3000) make up the top 10.

Scott’s odds have fallen from +3300 to +2500 within a matter of days, and it’s not much of a surprise when you consider how dominant he’s been in majors. Scott has the best scoring average in majors since the beginning of 2011 at 70.92, just ahead of Day (70.93) and McIlroy (70.93).

PGA Championship week is here, and sportsbooks are expecting one man to stand ahead of the rest at Baltusrol Golf Club.

At online book Sports Interaction, Dustin Johnson is a +800 favorite to win the hardware. Rory McIlroy (+900), Jason Day (+900), Jordan Spieth (+1400), Henrik Stenson (+1400), Phil Mickelson (+1800), Sergio Garcia (+2500), Justin Rose (+2800), Adam Scott (+3300) and Bubba Watson (+3300) make up the top 10.

Johnson (U.S. Open), Stenson (British Open) and Danny Willett (Masters) are the 2016 major winners in the field. Johnson and Stenson are heading into the event blazing-hot, but Willett’s game has seemingly fallen off a cliff since he slipped on the green jacket at Augusta National. It’s best to avoid the Englishman for the foreseeable future until he can regain his touch.

With the third major of the PGA Tour season in the books, the eyes of the golfing world will now shift to Springfield, New Jersey for the 2016 PGA Championship at Baltusrol Golf Club.

At online sportsbook Bovada, Rory McIlroy and Jason Day are co-favorites at +800 odds. Jordan Spieth (+900), Dustin Johnson (+900), Henrik Stenson (+1600), Phil Mickelson (+2000), Justin Rose (+2500), Rickie Fowler (+2500), Adam Scott (+2500) and Bubba Watson (+2800) round out the top 10.

Day, the 2015 PGA Championship winner, didn’t have his best stuff at the British Open but he should be in the mix this time around. The No. 1 golfer in the world has three wins on the PGA Tour this season with his most recent triumph coming at the Players Championship on May 12.

Stenson at +1600 looks like a steal. The 40-year-old put on a historic performance at the Open, outdueling wily veteran Phil Mickelson on the tournament’s final day to finish the event 20 under par. Stenson’s Sunday showing of 8-under 63 was the best final round in major championship history, and his combined score of 264 is the lowest ever in one of golf’s premier tournaments.

McIlroy is a two-time winner at the PGA Championship, so it’s no surprise to see him headlining this list. The Northern Irishman has yet to pick up a victory in 2016 but he does have five top-10 finishes in his last seven appearances.

To the surprise of absolutely no one, Tiger Woods has officially withdrawn from the tournament. The former world No. 1 will miss the entire PGA Tour season - the first time in his career he's gone a full year without playing in at least one major.

The 2016 PGA Championship gets underway on July 28.
