Rahm Looks To Keep On Rolling

Jon Rahm is on top of the golf world right now. The Spaniard has four wins this season, eight top-10 finishes, and currently sits atop the FedEx Cup and World rankings.

The PGA Championship is the major Rahm's performed the 'worst' at, though he's never finished inside the top three. In the last three years, Rahm has just one top-10 finished at the PGA Championship, but that's not a reason to count out his game this year.

When And Where Is The 2023 PGA Championship?

  • Dates: May 18-21, 2022
  • Course: Oak Hill East Course
  • Location: Rochester, New York
  • Field: 156 players
  • Prize fund: $15,000,000

The East Course at Oak Hill Country Club is ranked as one of the most prestigious courses in the world. It plays as a par 70 at 7,334 yards.

With a creek running through the entire course, Oak Hill is one of the harder courses on the Major Championship circuit. It puts a premium on staying out of trouble and rewards golfers who can scramble out of issues when they do arise. For that reason, we're prioritizing driving accuracy and scrambling out of sand as our two main stats for PGA Championship picks.

2023 PGA Championship Pick: Sung-Jae Im (+3500)

Im is really the only player who grades out highly in both metrics we're looking for at Oak Hill: driving accuracy and scrambling out of sand. He's 21st on tour in DA and 14th in SS.

He also enters the Championship on a pretty consistent hot streak. Im hasn't finished outside the top 20 in a tournament since early March and hasn't missed a cut since January (13 tournaments ago). He's finished eighth or better in three straight events since the Masters, posting a collective -47 score under par.

Jason Day To Win (+2500)

The PGA Championship hasn't been at East Hill since 2013, and there aren't too many golfers still in the field from that year. However, Australian Jason Day posted a great opening and final round that year to finish eighth in the field (-3), and that experience could help him in 2023.

Day is also having a bit of a career renaissance, too, rattling off six top-10 finishes so far in 2023, including a victory last week. With a score of nine under in the final round, Day surged by the field to win the AT&T Byron Nelson last week at TPC Craig Ranch.

Collin Morikawa To Win (+3500)

Collin Morikawa got his big breakout at the 2020 PGA Championship, snatching the win. I like him again this time around because of his dominance with the big stick. He currently ranks fourth on tour in driving accuracy, hitting 69.90 percent of fairways.

Morikawa has missed the cut at his last two tournaments, but before that, he was on a heater. Of his 11 tournaments this year, the young American has finished inside the top 10 four times, including a 10th place finish as the Masters last month. It certainly doesn't hurt Morikawa's case that the PGA Championship has been won by an American seven years in a row.

How to Read PGA Championship Odds

Looking at golf odds can be complicated if you’re new to betting on the sport, so don’t worry if it’s a little overwhelming at first. To learn more about the various ways to wager on golf, check out our How to Bet on Golf page.

If sportsbooks have Rory McIlroy as the +1000 favorite in PGA Championship odds, that means a $100 bet on him to win the tournament would pay out $1,100 – your bet amount of $100 plus winnings of $1,000.

It’s incredibly tough to win major championships and the PGA Championship is no different, so there is risk involved in pre-tournament bets given the significant amount of competition in the field. But McIlroy’s immense talent and past success in majors makes him an appealing option despite the shorter odds.

On the other side of the fence, a golfer like Brandt Snedeker would be considered a long shot to emerge triumphant at the PGA Championship. According to the latest PGA Championship odds, Snedeker has +20000 odds to go all the way. A $100 bet on him to win outright would pay out $20,100 – your $100 is returned coupled with your winnings of $20,000.
