PGA Tour Expert Picks: Charles Schwab Challenge

Francesco Molinari of Italy lines up a putt on the first green during the final round of the 2019 PGA Championship at the Bethpage Black course on May 19, 2019 in Farmingdale, New York.

Look, predicting a pre-tournament winner in golf isn’t easy. While it’s true sports bettors can find fantastic value, it’s incredibly frustrating when one of your picks doesn’t even make the cut. That’s why I’m here to help.

Every week I’ll highlight three golfers who have a good chance to win the hardware for the upcoming weekend. This week it’s the Charles Schwab Challenge. Coming off my Brooks Koepka call to win the 2019 Championship, we’ll be looking to hit twice in two weeks.

For a full breakdown of the tournament, check out my betting preview.

My favorite pick: Rickie Fowler +1400

Fowler is coming off a disappointing Sunday at Bethpage Black in which he fired a 77, but I don’t think that’s a reason to fade the American this week. Fowler, who’s making his seventh appearance at this tournament, has three top-15s at Colonial to go along with five top-20s in 2019.

My second favorite pick: Francesco Molinari +1800

Molinari is making his first start at Colonial, but inexperience hasn’t hindered the Italian at new courses in the past. The track fits his game perfectly, and he’s proven over the past year that he’s a threat to win wherever he goes.

My third favorite pick: Scott Piercy +5000

Piercy likely won’t garner much pre-tournament action at sportsbooks, but I think he’s better than his +5000 price shows. The 40-year-old posted a T-7 here in 2017 and two podium finishes in his last four starts upon arrival. Considering he ranks eighth in greens in regulation, he’s worth a shot at the Charles Schwab Challenge.
