Tiger Woods Props: Will We See the Old Tiger in 2017?

Despite all of his personal issues, there has never been a golfer with the ability to electrify an audience like Tiger Woods.

While it’s painfully obvious that Woods’ best days are behind him, the former world No. 1 has vowed to make his grand return to professional golf in 2017. Woods’ attempts have been once again derailed by injuries, however, as the former world No. 1 hasn’t played since pulling out of the Dubai Desert Classic in early February with back spasms.

Since 2010, he’s withdrawn from seven tournaments — four of them because of back issues. In Woods’ first 322 starts as a professional, he had only four withdrawals, but he has five in his last 19. Yikes.

With golf’s most prestigious event, the Masters, almost here Bovada is tabbing him with a +5000 shot of slipping on the green jacket for a fifth time. Woods hasn’t officially declared himself out for the tournament, and there’s a lot of chatter in the golfing world about how Tiger is working hard to make another appearance at Augusta National.

The shop has also given him a +1100 shot of winning a major in 2017. Woods’ last major title came all the way back in 2008 when he won the U.S. Open by beating Rocco Mediate in a sudden-death playoff.

At the age of 41, Woods still has plenty left to prove. Tiger has been stuck on 14 major championships since the 2008 U.S. Open, which is four back of Jack Nicklaus’ record. The odds of him surpassing Nicklaus are looking slimmer every year, but if Woods has taught us anything, it’s that you should never count him out.

The biggest roadblock standing in his way is clearly his health. Woods was out of action for a year and a half while recovering from multiple back surgeries. If his body holds up, he’ll very likely be in contention on numerous occasions this year, but that’s far from a guarantee.

Personally, I would love to see the old Tiger again. The sport has been blessed with an influx of young talent over the last few years with names like Jordan Spieth, Rory McIlroy, Dustin Johnson and Jason Day topping the World Golf Rankings, but the game is always better with Tiger around.

What do you think? Will Tiger successfully make his long-awaited comeback, or will he fail to meet expectations again? Have your say in the comments.
