Guys & Bets (Episode 228): Rose Bowl, Alamo Bowl, Plus Two NBA, NHL and Premier League Picks

On the final edition of Guys & Bets for 2019, Joe Osborne and Andrew Avery are looking to end the year on a high note with picks across the NBA, NHL, Premier League and college football bowl games.

Joe gets things started in the NBA as the Los Angeles Clippers travel to Sacramento to take on the Kings. Sacramento comes into the game having lost seven straight, while Los Angeles has alternated wins and losses over its last eight games. Joe has some interesting numbers on the line on this game.

Sticking with the NBA, Joe is in on a prop bet for Philadelphia 76ers big man Joel Embiid. The fifth and sixth seeds in the Eastern Conference square off in Indiana with both having dropped their last two games. The Pacers sport an impressive 14-3 home mark, while the 76ers are 7-10 away from the City of Brotherly Love.

Finally for Joe, he’s back on a trend that was hitting frequently as the season started. The New York Rangers square off with the Edmonton Oilers and after a hot start to the season, the Oilers have come back down to earth, losing nine of their last 12 games. Neither side has goaltending that you can really hang your hat on.

Ninja kicks off his picks with the Alamo Bowl between Texas and Utah. The 11th-ranked Utes, the Pac-12 runners-up, are looking to end their promising season on a high note. Senior quarterback Tyler Huntley is looking to cap off his collegiate career in Texas with style, but Tom Herman and the Longhorns have other plans in what is basically a home game for Texas (7-5). After starting 4-1, Texas started to fall off with losses to Oklahoma and TCU in a three-week span.

Next is one of the best traditions in college football: the Rose Bowl. Sixth-ranked Oregon takes on eighth-ranked Wisconsin in what could be a defensive battle. The game features a few players whom we should hear about at the next level, namely Oregon quarterback Justin Herbert and Wisconsin running back Jonathan Taylor. The Rose Bowl rarely disappoints, and this one is set up to be a dandy. Ninja has a bet on the line on this game.

Ninja’s final pick is in the EPL, and it should be a huge game in deciding relegation as West Ham takes on Bournemouth and welcomes new manager David Moyes back to the club. The last time these teams squared off in September, it ended in a 2-2 draw.
