Guys & Bets (Episode 237): Four NBA Picks, Plus FA Cup and Ligue 1

Joe is coming off a 3-0 performance with his NBA picks yesterday and has another three from a jam-packed Wednesday board, including a tasty matchup between the Oklahoma City Thunder and Toronto Raptors.

First things first, though, and Joe starts the show off with a Guys & Bets darling, the Charlotte Hornets. Terry Rozier and the Hornets are in Denver to take on the Nuggets, who are fresh off a 114-104 win over the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday with Nikola Jokic leading the way with 20 points, 15 rebounds and six assists. Jokic has started turning into the player we expected from the beginning of the regular season, averaging 25.8 points per game in 2020. Joe’s play is on the total in this game.

Next on the docket is the Detroit Pistons in Beantown to take on the Boston Celtics and talk about teams going in opposite directions. The Pistons have lost four of their last five games, and all-star center Andre Drummond got benched last game in the fourth quarter and overtime as coach Dwane Casey was sending a message to everyone on the bench. Meanwhile, the Celtics sit second in the Eastern Conference and recently dropped 140 on the Pelicans. For this game, Joe is on a team total.

Finally for Joe, it’s off to Oklahoma City for the Thunder-Raptors game. The Thunder are easily the most pleasant surprise in the NBA this season, sitting in seventh place in the Western Conference. The addition of Chris Paul has helped shape this Oklahoma team into a real grind to play against each night. One thing you can count on with the Raptors is effort on defense, regardless of who is healthy or not. There is a total in this game that appeals to Joe.

Ninja starts his picks off with a rematch of the 2013 and 2014 NBA Finals. The cast is much different now, though, as the San Antonio Spurs are in South Beach to take on the Miami Heat. Jimmy Butler has reinvigorated “the culture” the Heat have been lacking the last couple of seasons and young guys in Tyler Herro and Kendrick Nunn have added some shooting to the Miami lineup. Ninja’s wager here is on the spread.

With the FA Cup in full swing, Ninja did some digging and found a bet for the Manchester United vs Wolves match. United is one of the biggest names in soccer and that can lead to some people wagering just on their name. But this fixture could make you think twice about that.

Lastly, it’s off to Ligue 1 as the top team, PSG, squares off against Monaco. This is an important match for Monaco as they sit in eighth place but it’s a logjam in Ligue 1 this season. In the overall standings, only six points separates fifth through 15th. Each game holds even more significance and Ninja will get you prepared to make an informed wager.
