Guys & Bets (Episode 246): Five NBA Picks and a Carabao Cup Pick

Joe Osborne and Andrew Avery have dug through the important numbers and stats and are ready for a big night in the NBA. With three of the top four teams in the East playing, there is a nice slew of games to bet on, including the Heat hosting the Celtics.

The Dallas Mavericks host the Phoenix Suns in a matchup that features two of the top three picks from the 2018 NBA Draft. Deandre Ayton and Luka Doncic are two names we should be hearing for years to come in the NBA. In January, Ayton has been on fire, posting a double-double in nine of 13 games. Not to be outdone, Doncic has basically put himself in the MVP conversation. Joe has a player prop for one of these two young stars.

If you believe in trends, and you should, Joe has a bet on the Greasy Grizzlies tonight that follows a money-making spot. While looking at game lines and totals is good practice, don’t underestimate other betting options such as first-quarter totals and spreads. That’s where this bet goes as the Memphis Grizzlies host the Denver Nuggets.

In a matchup that will have more to do with the NBA draft lottery than the playoff picture, the Charlotte Hornets host the New York Knicks, but just because a game doesn’t feature a litany of superstars doesn’t mean there isn’t a good angle to make some money. Joe has a bet on the total for this one, and you’ll want to hear the reasoning.

Staying on the hard court, Ninja likes a bet regarding the spread in an Eastern Conference matchup in South Beach. The Boston Celtics could be without one of their stars as they face the Miami Heat. The Heat have been getting contributions from across the board this season en route to the second-best record in the East.

In other NBA action, the Toronto Raptors host the lowly Atlanta Hawks. The Raptors are riding a seven-game winning streak and all-star Pascal Siakam is starting to return to his form from earlier this season. Any game with Trae Young should be fun to watch, but he’s been the lone bright spot for the Hawks.

We now turn the attention to the pitch for a League Cup fixture. Aston Villa takes on Leicester City in a rematch of their Carabao Cup game from January 8, which ended in a 1-1 draw. With a spot in the final on the line at Villa Park, Ninja has a simple moneyline wager for this one.

As always, the show wraps up with a Q&A session for our viewers, so if there’s anything you’ve always wanted to ask, you should be joining us live every weekday at noon ET on our YouTube channel!
